Job Description
At Teledyne FLIR, we design and deliver advanced imaging systems that help protect borders, support defense missions, and enable critical decision-making in the field. As a Senior EO/IR Systems Engineer, you’ll contribute to or help lead the development of cutting-edge electro-optical and infrared sensor systems used across air, land, maritime, and handheld platforms. From concept to deployment, your work will shape the performance of mission-critical technologies. What you'll do
Participate in or lead systems engineering for EO/IR imaging sensors across multiple platforms
Define requirements, conduct trade studies, and model system performance
Develop and execute test plans for sensor characterization and verification
Perform lab and field testing to characterize and validate imaging system performance
Collaborate with optical, mechanical, software, and electrical teams
Support product development lifecycle reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR)
Troubleshoot technical issues and support production transitions
Contribute to proposals, customer presentations, and technical documentation
Mentor junior engineers and support business development efforts
Coordinate with vendors and contribute to IP development
What you need
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or Optical Sciences (MS/PhD preferred)
Required: 8–12+ years of experience in EO/IR imaging system design and testing
Required: Expertise in VIS, SWIR, MWIR, LWIR imaging sensors and system radiometric analysis, such as SNR and NEDT, DRI range modeling
Required: Hands-on expertise in VIS, SWIR, MWIR, LWIR imaging sensors lab testing
Required: Experience with full product lifecycle and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Required: Experience in creating technical documentations and presentation slides, and ability to lead technical meetings
Advantage: Experience in utilizing NV-IPM, MODTRAN, ZEMAX and MATLAB
Advantage: Experience in passive range sensing
Advantage: Experience in EO/IR/laser system reliability analysis
Advantage: Familiarity with laser devices and MBSE tools (SysML, CAMEO)
Advantage: Strong communication and proposal writing skills
Advantage: Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance
Required: Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
