We are currently searching for a Sr. Electrical Systems Engineer- MR System Hardware Integration to join our team. This role will be performed on-site and is based at our location in North Billerica, MA. Please note: There is no relocation offered for this role. The ideal candidate will currently reside in the Greater Boston area.
JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer supports MR research and product development through system integration, electrical design and integration, RF coil testing, and medical device standard compliance. This position works across multidisciplinary teams to integrate and troubleshoot MR hardware, evaluate system performance and ensure compliance with applicable electrical safety standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead electrical integration and troubleshooting of MR research systems and associated hardware in the power cabinet, cable/wire cabling and the magnet assembly
- Design, evaluate, and test electrical and electromechanical subsystems supporting MR system functionality.
- Perform RF coil integration, tuning, matching and basic RF measurements using network analyzers and related test equipment.
- Investigate and resolve grounding, shielding, EMI/EMC, and ground loop issues impacting system performance and image quality.
- Develop and execute system-level verification and performance test protocols.
- Support electrical safety assessments and compliance activities in accordance with IEC 60601-1.
- Collaborate with RF, software, systems, and mechanical engineering teams throughout product development.
- Develop and maintain system and subsystem bills of materials (BOMs) and associated engineering documentation.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Reports to the Head of MRI Development
- This position does not supervise other employees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, system integration, or medical device development.
- Strong understanding of grounding, RF shielding, EMI/EMC and the troubleshooting.
- Experience identifying and mitigating ground loops, electrical noise and signal integrity issues at both subsystem and system levels.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, and spectrum analyzers.
- Knowledge of IEC 60601-1 electrical safety requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with MR systems, MR hardware or medical imaging equipment.
- Experience with RF coil testing, tuning, matching, and characterization.
- Familiarity with IEC 60601-1-2.
- Experience with MATLAB and Python.
