Founded in 2011, Amp Americas builds, owns, and operates Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production facilities that convert dairy waste into carbon-negative natural gas, renewable transportation fuel, and power. Amp is a top 3 producer in the industry and has eight facilities across five states that generate more than 1.7 Bcf of carbon-negative RNG per year with another 0.7 Bcf/year under construction. The vertically integrated company leverages over a decade of unique expertise and specialized experience in renewable fuel production, operations, and marketing to deliver comprehensive, turn-key solutions that address greenhouse gas emissions and seek to improve air, land and water quality. Position Summary
Working closely with and reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the Senior Director of Business Development will be an integral part of AMP’s commercial efforts, focusing on multi‑year (3–10+ year) offtake opportunities for AMPs assets. While there are well-established short-term (<1 year) markets for Dairy RNG, long‑dated, infrastructure‑grade markets are nascent, and this role will lead market creation and customer education to support (a) portfolio expansion via new project development and (b) enterprise value enhancement through contracted revenue streams. Amp is seeking a business development professional with energy industry experience across multiple relevant verticals (gas, power, data centers, C&I, etc.) with demonstrated experience creating new markets or use cases, building opportunity pipelines, cultivating customer relationships, and negotiating and executing term transactions. Amp is looking for an originator who can lead all aspects of a transaction, from customer prospecting through contract review and negotiation, including cross-functional coordination and leadership of all details in between. The ability to work independently while simultaneously collaborating with the rest of the Business Development team is essential, as well as a good working knowledge of the pricing, portfolio management, and back-office functions needed to support commercial transactions. Similarly, there will be select responsibility for supporting organic and inorganic (M&A) portfolio expansion. This is a senior, externally‑facing role engaging executive‑level decision makers at customers and partners, with progressive transition of long‑term origination responsibility from the CCO to this role. This position will be remote‑first with frequent travel (50-60%) for industry conferences, customer visits, and team meetings (Chicago office hub available).
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and investigate new market opportunities for carbon-negative RNG and related environmental attributes, including both compliance and voluntary buyers and use cases
- Develop and own a CRM‑tracked pipeline of opportunities to include customer prospecting, identification of relevant decision makers, initial contact, and stewardship of customer through the pipeline from customer cultivation to contract execution
- Lead commercial transactions from first engagement and term sheet negotiation through execution of definitive documents (including structuring, pricing mechanics, credit/security, operational coordination, and deal approval)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the portfolio management, finance, legal, and back-office teams to ensure deal integrity across pricing, credit, scheduling/nomination, measurement/verification, and settlements
- Represent Amp at industry conferences and customer visits and develop and deliver customer education materials (decarbonization uses, case studies, carbon accounting guidance, etc.)
- Assist CCO in developing a marketing and publicity strategy aligned to target segments and long‑term offtake objectives
- Advise and provide commercial support on expansion, greenfield and M&A opportunities (commercial diligence, offtake anchoring, and risk allocation)
- Provide limited, exception‑based support on shorter‑term transactions during peak periods while maintaining primary focus on multi‑year origination
Success Metrics (Outcomes)
- Within 12 months: build a robust pipeline of qualified, multi‑year opportunities; execute term sheets with strategic counterparties; demonstrate measurable contribution to enterprise value (e.g., contracted volumes, accretive pricing, counterparty credit quality)
- Ongoing: maintain CRM hygiene, cycle‑time reduction from first contact to term sheet, and stakeholder satisfaction across internal functions (finance, legal, operations)
Required Skills / Abilities / Qualifications
- 5-10 years’ experience in energy origination and transactional structuring, including new market analysis and development
- Strong understanding of the entire energy industry and key verticals, including gas, power, data centers, C&I, chemicals/materials where methane is a feedstock, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to originate and close multi‑year structured offtake contracts; proficiency in pricing mechanics (fixed, index‑linked, collars), credit/security (parent guarantees, LCs), and risk allocation
- Sustainability expertise and experience preferred (e.g., environmental attribute transaction experience) but not required. RNG market knowledge and experience a plus. Note: familiarity with RFS/RINs, LCFS/CI accounting, and voluntary market instruments (Preferred)
- Working knowledge of relevant policy and incentive frameworks (e.g., EPA RFS, California LCFS, state clean fuel programs) (Preferred)
- Ability to generate opportunities independently; tenacity and persistence
- Collaborative mindset
- Ability to prioritize, focus, and then pivot as necessary
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (executive‑level presence; ability to build C‑suite relationships)
