This role will be responsible for leading the Commercial Agribusiness Account Manager and Field Sales teams. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, strategic business development, as well as experience working with both Commercial Agribusiness and Farm customers.  Experience in multiple disciplines – including underwriting, sales, or risk management  - or pulling together cross disciplinary efforts can be an advantage.

This role will require national travel, and the ability to travel will be critical to success.

The preferred location for this role is the Des Moines office. However, remote work arrangements will be considered for candidates located outside the Columbus area.

As a Sr Sales Director you will plan, develop and coordinate programs and plans that result in profitable sales at agreed upon growth rates and acceptable premium, retention, agency strength and expense levels. Accountable for Commercial Agribusiness sales and account management along with farm account management. Responsible for leading specific strategic initiatives to grow top line for Commercial Agribusiness and retention for all Agribusiness products.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Plans and develops sales strategies and responsible for achieving production goals of quality new business while retaining accounts currently in portfolio 

  • Develop and implement profit share plans, Optional Compensation Plans, and other broker/agency commission options 

  • Guides the team through broker/agency growth plans 

  • Accountable for the appointment process as well as tracking of progress of relationships 

  • Responsible for the Broker of Record process and approvals 

  • Works closely with peers and leaders across functions to carry out strategic intent 

  • Actively engages at national level with industry organizations that share common agribusiness interests to enhance Nationwide Agribusiness’ reputation, as well as sustain and create business opportunities 

  • Directs associates' performance, management, salary planning and administration, training/development, organizational planning and hiring 

 

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.   

 

Reporting Relationships:  Reports to VP, Commercial Ag Sales & UnderwritingLeads Sales and Retention Teams (approximately 15 direct/indirect reports). 

 

Typical Skills and Experiences:   

 

EducationUndergraduate studies in insurance, business, finance, marketing or related field. 

 

License/Certification/Designation:  Technical designation such as CPCU, CIC or AFIS preferred. 

 

Experience: 10+ years’ experience of field management or technical insurance experience. Strong leadership skills with the ability to work across multiple disciplines. Strategic agility, results orientation, customer focus, effective team building, ability to lead and develop talent, decision making quality.  

 

Knowledge, Abilities and SkillsExceptional knowledge of agency operations, sales initiative implementation and training concepts involving products, rules, and rating plans. Very strong understanding of business concepts including financial pro forma, operating plans, goal setting, sales and marketing techniques. Strong understanding of Nationwide processes, products, fiduciary responsibility and compliance requirements. Excellent knowledge of commercial lines small and middle market business. Key competencies include functional technical skills, business savvy, managerial courage, political savvy, conflict management, executive presence, directing others, hiring and staffing, customer focus, organizational agility, interpersonal savvy, drive for results, planning, organizing, priority setting and presentation skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact with all levels of internal and external contacts. 

 

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.  

 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

The national salary range for Sr Director, Agribusiness Sales and Retention : $136,000.00-$267,000.00

The expected starting salary range for Sr Director, Agribusiness Sales and Retention : $142,000.00 - $237,000.00
