We are looking for an experienced Power BI Administrator with data engineering background to lead the administration of enterprise BI platforms and support advanced analytics initiatives. This role combines deep expertise in Power BI environment management with data engineering skills to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing BI solutions. The ideal candidate will manage Power BI Service and Report Server environments and enforce governance standards across the organization.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Power BI Administration:
- Administer Power BI Report Server (PBIRS) and/or Power BI Service environments
- Manage workspace governance, security models, roles, and user access
- Deploy, upgrade, and configure Power BI Gateways, data source connections, and capacity settings
- Monitor server performance, refresh schedules, and usage analytics
- Troubleshoot performance issues related to Power BI datasets, gateways, and refresh failures
- Ensure compliance with organizational security and audit policies
- Data Engineering Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics and reporting
- Develop data integration solutions using SQL, Python, Spark, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, or similar tools
- Create and maintain data ingestion frameworks from cloud, on-prem, and third-party apps
- Implement data quality checks, monitoring, and validation processes
- Work with database administrators to optimize performance and storage
- Document data lineage, transformations, and metadata for enterprise governance
- Infrastructure & Governance:
- Collaborate with security teams to establish policies, access controls, and audit logs
- Maintain disaster recovery (DR), backup strategies, and environment patching schedules
- Participate in data governance processes and metadata management
- Ensure adherence to best practices for enterprise BI architecture and data lifecycle management

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, BI Platform Management, or related roles
- Deep experience administering Power BI Report Server, Power BI Service, Premium/PPU, Gateways, and Capacity Nodes
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP optional)
- Expertise in SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent)
- Hands-on experience developing Power BI datasets, dataflows, and optimized models (DAX preferred)
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, star schema design, and BI best practices
- Familiarity with version control (Git) and DevOps practices for BI deployments
- Solid troubleshooting, performance tuning, and problem-solving skills
