Sr. Cloud Provisioning Engineer

This position is a hybrid role requiring employees to work from our headquarters location in Seattle, WA; or Atlanta, GA every Tuesday and Wednesday, and remote all other days.

**This is a remote role which can be performed from any location in the United States. Only those who currently reside in the United States will be considered**

Do you like designing and building mission critical AWS infrastructure with scalability, security, and observability at its core? If so, we are on the lookout for a highly skilled and motivated engineer to play a key role in shaping infrastructure serving upwards of 50M monthly visitors.

As a Sr. Cloud Provisioning Engineer on our compute team, you will help us to architect and build a platform that scales, while ensuring a secure, cost effective and reliable ecosystem. The Role

• You will be a key architectural contributor as Redfin grows and scales our platform which runs all of Redfin and Rent’s cloud compute services.

• You will define the next level of maturity for our platform as it grows. Model how we’ll stay ahead of capacity and growth demands and ensure observability is core to our platform in a cost effective way.

• You will improve the existing provisioning system for Engineers to interface with, enabling developers to quickly deploy and manage various compute flavors (Kubernetes, EC2, Lambda).

• You will define the shared responsibilities model between infrastructure and feature developers

• You will aim to automate everything, nothing is handcrafted, infrastructure as code is your nature

• You will drive discussions and build consensus of how best to isolate our applications in a scalable, secure and robust architecture.

• You will identify trends happening elsewhere in the industry and investigate how to apply them to the team or Redfin as a whole

• You will improve those around you by driving team efficiency improvements, mentoring teammates to strengthen individual skills and share your learnings

• You will help drive our mission to radically change the way people make one of the biggest decisions of their lives.

• You will define, own, and scale all aspects of our AWS infrastructure ensuring optimal performance, cost allocation, and resilience.

About You

• You have 5+ years of experience in Software or Systems Development

• You have 5+ years experience with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• You have 2+ years of experience in Linux system administration / bash scripting

• You have 2+ years of experience with Terraform

• You have direct experience provisioning and maintaining cloud services at scale.

• You have experience building centralized tooling to manage distributed systems at scale. 

• You have expert level development skills in at least one language (e.g. Python, Java)

• You have expertise in designing, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

• You have the ability to lead complex technical discussions with a variety of audiences, including Software and Systems Engineers, and Senior Management

• You are a thought leader able to identify solutions to difficult problems and lead these solutions to implementation

• You are a natural mentor who can coach and guide more junior members of the team

• You have the ability to consult with other teams on system design and capacity planning

• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience

• You are able to work in an on-call rotation supporting both Kubernetes and other Redfin infrastructure.  On-call expectation will be one week every 4-5 weeks.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• Networking knowledge in distributed systems for on-prem and cloud

• Experience in web application, network, or operating system security

The compensation information below is provided in compliance with all applicable disclosure requirements.

Base Pay Range: $146,500.00 - 198,000.00. Actual base pay will depend on varying circumstances, including the position, location, individual qualifications, market finances, and other operational business needs. Compensation may also include bonuses and equity.
