This individual will play a crucial role in an ongoing migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure while supporting the integration of cutting-edge Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. The Senior Cloud Architect will not be leading the cloud migration but will actively participate in architectural design and implementation efforts, ensuring seamless integration of cloud and on-premises environments.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cloud migration teams to design, implement, and optimize AWS and Azure solutions for Department's infrastructure and enterprise applications.
  • Participate in the integration of IoT/ITS technologies with AWS and on-premises systems, contributing to the department's Intelligent Transportation Management initiatives.
  • Provide architectural designs for hybrid environments to support transportation management systems, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
  • Assist with the documentation of logical and physical designs following department's policies, standards, and patterns.
  • Support ongoing efforts to modernize on-premises systems, with a focus on effective data flow and system integration between transportation management and cloud-based services.
  • Participate in design reviews, cloud roadmap discussions, and project planning efforts with cross-functional teams.
  • Assist in drafting technical requirements and ensuring adherence to department's cloud governance and security policies.
  • Conduct performance analysis and capacity planning to ensure that the cloud environments are appropriately configured and optimized.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on product selection, integrations, and deployments, particularly in relation to IoT/ITS solutions.
  • Stay informed about the latest in cloud, IoT, and ITS technologies to bring innovative ideas to department's infrastructure.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in infrastructure delivery and support, with significant exposure to cloud architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS and Azure, including cloud-native application development, application migration, and hybrid environments.
  • Solid experience integrating IoT/ITS technologies, particularly in a transportation or government setting, is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of networking, cloud security, disaster recovery, and data management in hybrid cloud environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, or other similar languages.
  • Familiarity with transportation management technologies and protocols (ITS standards, transportation signal controllers, etc.).
  • Experience working in agile project environments, with the ability to diagram and present cloud architectures.
  • Proficient in utilizing GitHub and GitHub Actions for efficient code management, automation, and deployment processes.
  • Experience in implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pipeline deployment strategies using Terraform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or substantial career experience in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • AWS Cloud Certification (AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Associate or Professional) preferred.
