Overview

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Sr. Business Operations Director plays a pivotal role in driving operational effectiveness, strategic alignment, and cross-functional collaboration across the Operations, Product, Marketing, Solutions, and Data teams. 

This role is a force multiplier for the COO—helping translate strategic priorities into operational outcomes, ensuring day-to-day business efficiency, and accelerating cross-functional collaboration. They will operate at the heart of the business, partnering with senior leaders to drive clarity, accountability, and execution across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with the COO to develop and track strategic initiatives, OKRs, and business goals
  • Develop frameworks for mapping department goals to company objectives, ensuring teams are working towards common outcomes. Implement regular check-ins with department heads to review progress and address misalignments.
  • Lead or support high-priority initiatives projects, especially those that span multiple teams or functions
  • Identify performance gaps in operations and propose process improvements
  • Monitor key business metrics and flag issues requiring executive attention
  • Act as a communication hub between the COO and internal/external stakeholders
  • Coordinate preparation and presentations for business performance reviews and board-level meetings
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to set agendas and manage follow-ups for leadership cadences and ops reviews
  • Implement tracking tools, follow up with owners and reinforce accountability, step in to remove blockers or facilitate resolution
  • Work with People Ops to analyze talent needs and gaps, collaborate on how to structure teams for efficiency and alignment, advocate for employee engagement and retention strategies
  • Serve as a confidant and sounding board to senior leaders
  • Proactively identify misalignments and gaps in execution, facilitate workshops, discussions, and interventions where necessary
  • Champion a culture of operational excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with the People team on org planning, employee engagement, and leadership offsites
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in a mix of strategic operations, consulting, project management, or executive support
  • Experience working with or within COO, operations, or general management functions
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to quickly understand company dynamics, financials, and metrics
  • Exposure to org design, systems thinking, or business process optimization
  • Exceptional project management, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion, and a bias for action
  • Background in management consulting, VC/PE-backed startups, or operational scale-ups a plus

Location: Boston, MA

Job Type: Full-time, exempt 

The estimated hiring range for this role is $125,000 - $175,000 (plus applicable bonus/plus equity). This hiring range could vary by region based upon local market data. Final salary is ultimately decided upon taking into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to: skills and experience, licensure and certifications, education, specific location and dynamic market data.
