The Sr Accounting Manager supports the Mainstreet Insurance Services division of Baldwin and oversees a team of accounting professionals, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of all accounting activities. They develop accounting strategies, implement policies, and prepare financial reports to aid in decision-making. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate with management to achieve financial goals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily operations—including journal entries, reconciliations, financial analysis, and monthend close activities—across Cash, Revenue, and Advisor Payables to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Help to maintain data integrity through process adherence and development, review, and controls.

  • Evaluate process efficiencies through automation and third party resources to reduce manual intervention and improve accuracy.

  • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations related to the insurance industry and proactively assess their impact on the company's financial reporting practices.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant insurance accounting standards and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Prioritize functions as an individual contributor while multi-tasking and have ability to adapt to changes

  • Comprehend, analyze, and interpret the most complex accounting topics

  • Build and maintain relationships with segment leadership and throughout the organization

  • Effectively interact and communicate with management and colleagues on the most sensitive issues

  • Develop full understanding of the key risks and controls within all segment processes and at entity level

  • Effectively interact and communicate with internal audit and external audit.

  • Responsible for oversight of complete team's execution of segment controls to ensure compliance with SOX documentation

  • Demonstrate ability to review the most complex analyses, including identifying and supporting key assumptions in accordance with SOX

  • Establishes team goals and consistently meets established goals

  • Consistently demonstrates ability to manage a team with multiple projects with competing deadlines

  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to enhance their skills and professional development.

  • Demonstrate ability to identify, coach, and mentor talent within department

  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven work environment, promoting teamwork and cross-functional cooperation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and insurance accounting principles (e.g., statutory accounting, policyholder accounting, commission accounting).

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a high-performing accounting team.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data specific to the insurance brokerage industry and provide meaningful insights.

  • Advanced proficiency in financial software systems and Microsoft Excel.

  • Ability to think critically about business processes and be a solution architect

  • Be a change agent, drive accountability, and develop trust with cross-functional partners.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement initiatives and implement best practices within the insurance brokerage context.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA certification is highly desirable.

  • A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or related field.

  • Experience in Medicare or health insurance related industry preferred.
