The Senior Accountant reports to the Director of Financial Reporting and performs advanced financial accounting and system support to assure timely, accurate, and efficient preparation of BHF's financial, regulatory and related operational reports.
Job Responsibilities:
1) Prepares timely and accurate monthly financial statements for BHF, including commentary and fluctuation analyses on the balance sheet, revenue/expenses, and key statistics.
2) Prepares various regulatory reports, including the Federal Form 990, Massachusetts Form P.C., state solicitations, and other census and finance survey questionnaires as applicable.
3) Directs the accounting activities related to all BHF contributions, program expenses, and fund chargebacks.
4) Performs various financial analyses and account reconciliations. Maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual account revenue and expense analysis and other schedules as required.
5) Participates in system and BHF management committees and user groups as necessary. Establish and implement corporate and system financial policies and procedures. Work closely with other departments and subsidiary personnel and serve as a key member and resource of the BHF and BH finance support services team.
6) Prepares the posting of journal entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers. Maintain and review analyses of general ledger accounts. Reviews monthly and year-end accruals for appropriateness.
7) Assists the internal and external auditors with interim and year-end audit work papers. Manage and coordinate the year-end audit, including preparing the audit report, footnotes, and supporting schedules. Analyze audit findings, update procedures and internal controls as necessary.
8) Responsible for preparation and coordination of monthly bank reconciliations related to BHF. Perform a cash proof, reconciling cash and investment accounts. Compare cash and investment transactions from multiple general ledger interfaces to bank data downloads and Treasury Service investment extracts to ensure the completeness and accuracy of reported cash and investment balances. Monitor and analyze prepaid account balances—coordinate recording of prepaid amounts with Accounts Payable. Ensure timely and appropriate amortization of prepaid amounts.
9) Monitor, create, update all BHF capital activity requests, reports, and monitor other BH companies' capital activity where BHF may serve as a partial funder of the project. Book adjustments in the asset management module and upload them into the general ledger. Maintain depreciation/amortization schedules and audit work papers.
10) Prepare and execute monthly funding requests to BHF. Ensure proper system approvals, monitor, and locate actual expenses, and release funds to various BH entities.
11) Maintains a strong working knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) particularly FASB 117 - Financial statements for Not-for-Profit Organizations.
Required Work Experience:1) 3-6 years experience in a public accounting or general accounting environment required
2) Experience with computer systems and software required

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
