What You'll Do:

You'll join a team that is scaling as fast as the business it accounts for. We solve problems quickly, learn and improve as we go, and operate with positive intent, flexibility, and patience. This is a hands-on team that runs a monthly close and builds the process at the same time — teamwork and clear communication matter as much as execution. We win together.

About the Role:

The Senior Project Accountant is the hands-on owner of the day-to-day accounting for capital cost on our data center build program. You will maintain the record of capital activity as it lands, prepare the entries that move cost through CIP toward capitalization, and own the reconciliations and supporting schedules that stand behind the construction in progress balance.

This is a deep, detail-oriented role for someone who wants to be the person who knows every open item on their projects. You will prepare the monthly accrual and cost-to-complete schedules, support project setup and cost coding, and prepare the analysis that supports the in-service and useful life decisions made by the manager. You will work closely with teams across accounting, finance, construction and operations. This role reports to the Manager, Project Accounting.

Daily Management of Capital Activity

  • Maintain the daily record of capital spend, ensuring transactions are coded to the correct project, phase, entity and location
  • Review invoices and commitments as they are recorded and flag items requiring accounting judgment or capitalization review
  • Keep open items documented and current, so that issues are resolved as activity lands rather than at period end

Project Setup & Cost Structure Support

  • Support the setup and maintenance of the project structure and hierarchy through which cost is captured
  • Help maintain the mapping of cost to the elements of the build and to the asset records that will ultimately be created
  • Support the interface of project cost between NetSuite and SiteTracker, and troubleshoot cost that has not flowed as expected

Accruals & Cost-to-Complete

  • Prepare the monthly open purchase order and construction accrual schedules, including the reversal and re-establishment of prior-period accruals
  • Prepare the cost-to-complete view for each project and the supporting detail behind committed and incurred cost
  • Prepare the periodic allocation of shared capital cost to the assets and locations to which it relates

Capitalization & Useful Life Support

  • Prepare the supporting analysis behind in-service and capitalization decisions, including the build-up of cost into asset records
  • Prepare the useful life analysis supporting reported depreciation, and document the basis for asset classifications and useful life determinations

Reconciliation & Reporting

  • Prepare the period-end reconciliation of CIP and the related accrual and liability accounts
  • Investigate reconciling and outstanding items and follow them through to resolution
  • Prepare supporting schedules and variance explanations for review

Controls, Audit & Improvement

  • Maintain process documentation and evidence to meet Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements
  • Support internal and external audits and respond to information requests on a timely basis
  • Identify process improvements, including automation opportunities

Who You Are:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, with a background in capital, construction or fixed asset accounting
  • Demonstrated experience preparing accruals, reconciliations and supporting schedules on a fixed close calendar
  • Working understanding of how capital cost accumulates in CIP and transfers to fixed assets when placed in service
  • Strong working knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with operating in a SOX control environment
  • Strong Excel skills, including the ability to work accurately with large data sets
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with non-accounting teams
  • ERP systems experience required; NetSuite an advantage
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain momentum in high-growth environments, including the capacity to act effectively when faced with ambiguity or incomplete data
  • Excellent organizational, time and self-management skills, and the ability to prioritize and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Applicants must have work authorization that does not require sponsorship from the company now or in the future

Preferred:

  • Strong preference for candidates with a current fixed asset or capital accounting background in data centers or comparable capital-intensive infrastructure.
  • Exposure to project costing modules or construction cost systems (e.g., NetSuite project costing, SiteTracker).
  • Public accounting experience; CPA candidate.
  • Experience working with AI tools.

Wondering if you're a good fit? We believe in investing in our people and value candidates who can bring their diverse experiences to our teams — even if you aren't a 100% skill or experience match. Here are a few qualities we've found compatible with our team. If some of this describes you, we'd love to talk.

  • You like being close to the detail — you'd rather be the person who knows what every open item is than the one who asks.
  • You're curious about why a cost was incurred, not just where it was coded, and you follow the question until it makes sense.
  • You want to build depth in capital and fixed asset accounting on a program where the volume and the pace will stretch you.
