Magic’s mission is to build safe AGI that accelerates humanity’s progress on the world’s most important problems. We believe the most promising path to safe AGI lies in automating research and code generation to improve models and solve alignment more reliably than humans can alone. Our approach combines frontier-scale pre-training, domain-specific RL, ultra-long context, and inference-time compute to achieve this goal.

About the Role

As Magic continues to scale, we are building a world-class Recruiting org designed to match the pace and ambition of the company. We are looking for a Sourcing Lead who will own and evolve our sourcing function as we grow. This role reports directly to the Head of Recruiting and plays a critical part in shaping how we identify, engage, and hire exceptional talent across all business units.

You will combine deep hands-on sourcing expertise with leadership, operational rigor, and a strong analytical mindset. You understand how to build scalable systems, create clarity in ambiguous environments, and drive consistent results through both process and people. You are excited to roll up your sleeves, experiment, measure, and build a sourcing engine that becomes one of our competitive advantages.

What You Will DoLead and Scale the Sourcing Function
  • Own the vision, strategy, and execution for Magic's sourcing team as we grow.

  • Build and manage a team of sourcers, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance development.

  • Create sustainable capacity plans for the function including team size, allocation models, workforce planning, and ramp expectations.

Build a Data Driven Sourcing Engine
  • Define, track, and report on sourcing KPIs, dashboards, and productivity metrics such as reachouts, conversion rates, funnel health, and passthroughs.

  • Drive a rigorous testing and iteration culture by developing outreach experimentation frameworks, defining playbooks, and running systematic improvement cycles.

  • Partner with leadership to create OKRs and build forecasting models for sourcing output.

Hands On Expert Sourcing
  • Operate as a top tier sourcer, particularly for highly technical or hard to fill roles.

  • Manage pipelines across technical and non technical orgs and adapt strategies to each unique functional profile.

  • Build strong relationships with Hiring Managers to deeply understand role needs, team dynamics, and long term talent strategy.

Operational Excellence and Systems Design
  • Develop modular and scalable sourcing workflows, tools, and processes.

  • Implement best practices in candidate research, market mapping, competitive intelligence, and outreach personalization.

  • Partner closely with Recruiting Operations on tools, automation, data hygiene, and process optimization.

Cross Functional Partnership
  • Collaborate with Recruiters, People Ops, and Functional Leaders to align sourcing pipeline with company priorities.

  • Provide market insights and talent landscape data to guide headcount planning and hiring strategy.

  • Build resource plans to support new business units as Magic expands.

What We Are Looking For
  • Experience building, scaling, or leading a sourcing function. Formal management experience is a plus, but not required if you have played a de facto leadership role.

  • Demonstrated ability to build systems including workflows, playbooks, metrics frameworks, outreach strategies, and experimentation loops.

  • Strong analytical ability and comfort building dashboards, identifying trends, and running data driven decision processes.

  • Exceptional sourcing fundamentals including custom boolean search, market mapping, candidate research, personalization, and advanced tools.

  • Ability to support a diverse portfolio of roles across Technical, G&A, Operations, and GTM teams.

  • Strategic partner mindset combined with willingness to get hands on and source high impact roles yourself.

  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross functional collaboration skills.

  • High ownership, operational rigor, and a bias toward action.

Why Join Us

You will shape the foundational layer of how Magic identifies and engages world class talent. You will build the systems and team that will scale with the company, while also having the autonomy to design the sourcing function you have always wanted to run.

If you are excited to operate at the intersection of hands-on sourcing and strategic leadership, and want to build something enduring inside a fast moving company, we would love to talk.

Our culture:
  • Integrity: Words and actions should be aligned

  • Hands-on: At Magic, everyone is building

  • Teamwork: We move as one team, not N individuals

  • Focus: Safely deploy AGI. Everything else is noise

  • Quality: Magic should feel like magic

Compensation, benefits, and perks (US):
  • Annual salary range: $175K - $260K (depending on experience)

  • Equity is a significant part of total compensation, in addition to salary

  • 401(k) plan with 6% salary matching

  • Generous health, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents

  • Unlimited paid time off

  • Visa sponsorship and relocation stipend to bring you to SF, if possible

  • A small, fast-paced, highly focused team

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
