About CloudX

At CloudX we’re building a new supply-side advertising platform for mobile publishers. We’re convinced that an AI-native product will significantly advance the state of the art in mobile advertising; we recently raised a $30M Series A in order to bring this dream to life. We have a long history of innovation in this space — our founding team previously built MoPub (sold to Twitter for $350M) and MAX (acquired by AppLovin). Our new platform combines real technical improvements like verifiably fair auctions with a truly AI-native product experience to give publishers unprecedented control over their ad monetization strategy.

The Role

Embed directly with publishers to design, build, and ship the integration solutions that get them live on CloudX. You'll own the work from pre-sales integration discussion through hands-on integration, deployed tooling, and ongoing optimization. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you're an engineer first. You write the code, stand up the automation, and solve problems in the partner's environment. You combine deep ad tech expertise with consultative problem solving to ensure partners extract maximum value from CloudX's platform.

What You'll Do

  • Own SDK integration end-to-end, from kickoff to first impression served, writing and debugging code alongside the partner's engineering team
  • Build and ship production-grade integration, automation, AI agents, internal tools, and custom solutions that make each integration faster and more reliable than the last
  • Provide real-time, hands-on technical support during integration, QA, and optimization diving into logs, auctions, and live traffic
  • Troubleshoot issues across the full ad delivery pipeline: SDK, auctions, bidding, reporting
  • Leverage AI to analyze integration patterns, predict issues before they surface, and generate technical documentation and diagnostics
  • Turn recurring partner problems into reusable, deployable solutions then work with Product and Engineering to fold them back into the core platform
  • Monitor partner technical health and proactively surface optimization opportunities through data analysis and AI insights
  • Collaborate with engineering and product to create and maintain technical documentation, integration guides, and best-practice playbooks using AI assistance

What You Bring

  • 5+ years as a Software Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Integration Engineer, with substantial time spent writing and shipping code and not just managing projects
  • Proven ability to lead and implement complex technical integrations with clients, ideally in mobile, SDK-based, or programmatic advertising environments
  • Strong proficiency in iOS (Swift, Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin, Java) for SDK integration and debugging
  • Comfort building backend services, scripts, and automation in a general-purpose language (Python, Go, or similar)
  • Deep understanding of the ad-tech ecosystem: mediation platforms, header bidding, RTB/OpenRTB, auction mechanics, ad servers
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across client-side and server-side systems
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (like Claude) to accelerate code generation, debugging, documentation, and log analysis
  • Ability to build AI-powered automation that scales your impact well beyond manual work
  • Excellent communication skills. You can explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to travel to and embed with partners as needed

What We're Looking For

Engineer who ships in the field: You've built and deployed real solutions inside complex ad tech integrations. You can write code to solve problems on the spot. That might mean debugging an SDK issue, building an automation script, or standing up a custom solution. You're comfortable diving into logs, analyzing auction data, and finding solutions under real world constraints.
Consultative mindset: You're not just an implementer. You're a trusted technical advisor. You ask great questions to understand publisher needs. You design solutions that balance requirements with platform constraints, and you guide partners toward optimal outcomes.
Bridge builder: You translate between technical and business worlds effectively.
Problem solving: When integrations break or partners face issues, you form hypotheses, test them methodically, and communicate clearly throughout. You don't just fix the immediate problem. You identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
High ownership and initiative: You own partner technical success end to end. When you spot a way to improve the platform or the process, you build the prototype, document the proposal, and drive the change.
Early-stage mentality: You thrive in ambiguity and move fast. You know when "good enough" beats perfect and when to push for rigor. You're comfortable wearing multiple hats. One day it's hands-on integration, the next it's presenting to executives, and the day after it's building deployable tooling.
AI-forward approach: You actively use AI tools to scale your impact. That includes analyzing logs, debugging code, creating documentation, and building automation. You understand what AI accelerates and where human expertise is critical, and you're excited to build AI-powered solutions for partners.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary  + equity + benefits
  • Remote work flexibility with follow-the-sun coverage model
  • Work directly with MoPub/MAX founding team
  • Shape the future of ad tech infrastructure

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
