POSITION TITLE: Soil Carbon Specialist ConsultantBackground: Winrock International is recruiting a Soil Carbon Specialist (Consultant) with experience in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction from soil-related interventions within food and agriculture, particularly in row crop systems. This role will help expand the team’s capacity to provide technical support to validate projects within our client’s global supply chain.
Scope of Work:- The specialist will lead the development of a Regenerative Agriculture FAQ in alignment with Winrock’s standard template
- The specialist will collaborate with internal teams to support project validation of climate programs and projects related to soil carbon and regenerative agriculture. This is a remote opportunity. No travel included.
- Develop a comprehensive Regen AG FAQ designed to provide answers to frequent questions, definitions, data examples, and helpful links to assist suppliers and project developers in completing our project proposal form for row crop commodities.
- Ensure the FAQ is in alignment with our client’s internal guidance and leading GHG accounting frameworks (e.g., GHG Protocol, Science-Based Targets Initiative, Value Change Initiative).
- Coordinate with the Winrock team to refine content and integrate feedback based on project needs.
- Organize and maintain supporting research materials for internal reference.
- Ensure timely completion of the FAQ within the project deadline.
- Master’s degree in climate change, soil science, or a related discipline; terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in food systems and GHG accounting required. Additional years of experience are strongly preferred.
- Experience managing technical aspects of greenhouse gas accounting in the agriculture field, particularly row crops.
- Field or research experience with soil carbon models, data management for soil carbon, and greenhouse gas profiles of agricultural commodities.
- Knowledge of soil carbon model design methods and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) approaches to ensure GHG reduction measurements are repeatable, scalable, and GHG protocol compliant.
- Experience working with GHG accounting frameworks for insetting (e.g., GHG Protocol, SBTi, VCI) and MRV of GHG emissions impacts.
- Understanding of corporate supply chain management or procurement.
- Ability to synthesize scientific research into accessible, actionable knowledge products.
- Strong research and analytical abilities, with a specialty in soil carbon and regenerative agriculture systems.
- Ability to translate technical topics into clear, structured content for different audiences.
- Excellent writing, editing, and document design skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Advanced proficiency in Excel is preferred.
