What We're Researching

We're hiring software engineers to discuss the architecture of scalable computational pipelines for genomic data. Building these environments from scratch requires a unique intersection of domain knowledge and engineering rigor. Your feedback will inform how robust bioinformatics infrastructure is designed and deployed.

How It Works

You will participate in a remote, AI-moderated interview focused on your engineering workflows. During the session, you will walk us through how you design and build scalable environments from the ground up. We will ask you to detail the specific challenges of handling bioinformatics data and the technical tradeoffs you make. The conversation will flow through your recent projects, architectural decisions, and deployment strategies.

Who This Is For

We welcome backend software engineers, bioinformatics scientists, genomics data engineers, and computational biologists with strong architectural experience. You should have a proven track record of building scalable data pipelines from scratch. Ideal candidates will be highly comfortable discussing both the biological domain constraints and the underlying software engineering principles.

What You'll Do
  • Walk us through your process for architecting computational pipelines from scratch

  • Explain how you handle the unique scale and complexity of genomic data

  • Discuss the technical tradeoffs involved in building bioinformatics environments

  • Detail your deployment strategies and infrastructure choices

Who Should Apply
  • Professional experience as a software engineer or computational data engineer

  • Deep domain expertise in genomics or bioinformatics

  • Hands-on background in building scalable computational environments from the ground up

  • Comfortable discussing technical architectural decisions

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
