 We're looking for a Lead Member of Technical Staff to be part of our Shopper Agent platform. This platform is at the heart of Commerce Cloud, focused on building the next generation of conversational AI that transforms shopping into a simple, intelligent, and delightful conversation.You will be the hands-on engineer for highly scalable, real-time systems that power AI-driven shopper interactions for the world's biggest brands. You're not just coding; you're defining the operational excellence, resilience, and security for systems operating at global enterprise scale.

Responsibilities
Own the Technical Future: You'll be the champion of our long-term technical strategy, ensuring our platform is ready to scale for the world's largest commerce sites and leverage the latest breakthroughs in AI/ML.
Play with Cutting-Edge Tech: You will be the one researching, evaluating, and integrating technologies like Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Understanding (NLU), and vector databases to enhance the intelligence of our agent. 
Solve the Hardest Problems: You'll tackle systemic performance bottlenecks and architectural deficiencies in highly distributed, fault-tolerant cloud-native systems. Your challenge is keeping the engine running flawlessly for millions of shoppers.
Elevate the Craft: This role is about influence. You’ll be collaborating with cross-functional teams, mentoring senior engineers and raising the bar for engineering excellence across the entire Commerce Cloud organization. 

Required Skills
You've been in the game for 12+ years and, critically, have spent 3+ years operating as a Principal Engineer (or equivalent) for large-scale production systems.
Deep mastery in designing and building highly scalable, cloud-native systems, including distributed and event-driven architectures.
You've got a favorite modern backend language (like Java, Python, or Go) and a track record of wrestling large-scale data in both SQL and NoSQL environments.
Significant experience building and deploying on public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Your superpower is technical communication—you can articulate a complex technical vision and help the other person understand.
Preferred Skills
You have prior experience in E-commerce, conversational AI, chatbot development, or large-scale search/recommendation systems.
You've worked with and deployed machine learning models, specifically involving NLP/NLU or Generative AI/LLMs.

At Salesforce, we believe in equitable compensation practices that reflect the dynamic nature of labor markets across various regions. The typical base salary range for this position is $172,500 - $260,100 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $207,800 - $285,800 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
