As a Software Engineer, you will develop data solutions, optimize performance, support live systems, and write clean code for trading technologies.
Belvedere Trading is a leading proprietary trading firm proudly headquartered in downtown Chicago. Our traders work hard to provide liquidity to the market through their market-making activities and are the masters of a diverse set of commodities, interest rates, exchange-traded funds (ETF), and equity index options. From the beginning, we began iteratively investing in our proprietary technology and committing to building our systems from the ground up. Our trading models and software systems are continually re-engineered, optimized, and maintained to stay on top of the industry. This wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated efforts of our technology teams who utilize and perfect our innovative technology solutions.
Our team’s focus is to deliver high-quality data solutions to our core and affiliated groups. We strive to understand and support end-user needs who both leverage data for performance analytics and depend on our SQL Server infrastructure backing production trading systems. The data team strives to ensure that properly curated data is in the hands of the people who need it. They deliver the data and tools Belvedere needs to perform complex analytics and make data-driven decisions.
Jump into the heart of a fast-paced trading firm where your code powers decisions made by engineers, quants, traders, and executives. You’ll be hands-on with our proprietary research platform, helping shape new features and improving existing ones that drive real business impact.
What You'll Do
- Ship well-tested, well-documented, and maintainable code that plays a crucial role in our data pipeline
- Work on a mix of greenfield projects and high-impact improvements to core systems
- Be part of a collaborative, low-ego environment where learning is constant and ideas come from everywhere
- Help monitor and support live systems that capture and process critical trading data
- Join the conversation in technical discussions that weigh tradeoffs between performance, risk, and speed
- Collaborate with teammates to pick the best tools for the job — cloud-native, open-source, commercial — whatever pushes us forward
What You'll Need
- Solid working knowledge of a core programming language like Python or JVM languages, with the ability to write clean, maintainable code and a willingness to learn new languages as needed
- Interest in designing clean, intuitive APIs — whether they power backend services or make internal libraries easier for other developers to use
- Curiosity to find bottlenecks, chase down performance wins, and optimize with smart design
- Familiarity with cloud fundamentals — whether it’s compute, storage, or access control (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
- Interest in working with data and distributed systems— whether that’s writing queries, designing schemas, or just understanding how systems move and store it
- A user-first mindset and a desire to understand the “why” behind the features you build
- Strong communication and a willingness to learn from — and teach — your peers
Women and underrepresented groups frequently apply to jobs only if they meet 100% of the qualifications.
