About Flagship Labs 110 (FL110)

Flagship Labs 110 Inc. (FL110) is a privately held, early-stage technology company developing a new foundation for understanding biology— one built on digital access to the proteome. Our goal isn’t just better data— it’s a new interface between biology and computation, where proteins become part of the digital world. This shift will redefine what’s possible in human health, drug discovery, and systems biology.

We're developing a next-generation platform to make proteins as readable, searchable, and actionable as DNA, using custom-designed sensors and advanced signal interpretation. By combining innovations in molecular sensing and AI, we’re enabling researchers to observe biology with a level of speed and resolution previously out of reach.

FL110 is backed by Flagship Pioneering, which brings the courage, long-term vision, and resources needed to realize unreasonable results. At FL110, we are uniquely cross-functional and collaborative. We are actively reimagining the way teams work together and communicate. Therefore, we seek individuals with an inclusive mindset and a diversity of thought. Our teams thrive in unstructured and creative environments. All voices are heard because we know that experience comes in many forms, skills are transferable, and passion goes a long way.

If this sounds like an environment you’d love to work in, even if you only have some of the experience listed below, please apply.

Your Impact at FL110

As a Computational Scientist, Signal Processing, your focus will be on applying signal processing and machine learning methods to large datasets generated by our technology platform. You’ll play a critical role in shaping how we transform the analog world of proteins into structured digital insights.

What You’ll Be Building

  • Signal processing methods for high-frequency (kHz) time-series signal data
  • ML models for interpreting and classifying signals
  • Algorithms for handling variable-length, noisy, high-throughput data streams
  • Statistical frameworks to benchmark and validate model and algorithm performance
  • Tools and scripts for managing and analyzing large experimental datasets

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computational Biology, Computational Science, or related field, or Master’s with 5+ years industry experience.
  • Experience developing signal processing and machine learning algorithms for time-series data (electrophysiological, neuro, audio, sequencing, etc)
  • Proficiency in Python and scientific computing libraries (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, PyTorch or TensorFlow), and C/C++ for algorithm development and data analysis
  • Proven experience in analyzing time-series data, statistical learning, and algorithm design
  • Comfort in high-ambiguity R&D environments and experience prototyping algorithms from scratch

Bonus Points For

  • 2+ years experience in industry setting
  • Previous experience with interpreting sequencing data, and applying base-calling algorithms
  • Familiarity with cloud-native workflows (e.g., AWS S3) and large-scale data infrastructure to store, manage, and analyze large experimental datasets

About Flagship

Flagship Pioneering is a bioplatform innovation company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in generation of over 500 patents, initiation of over 50 clinical trials for novel therapeutic agents and an aggregate value of more than $90 billion. Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture. Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
