Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

About the Team

Netflix was an early pioneer in the public cloud and now operates one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated cloud environments. Our Cloud Infrastructure Engineering organization builds foundational services across Compute, Networking, and Storage that empower our developers to innovate without constraint.

The Network Services & Insights (NSI) team plays a critical role in abstracting and unifying Netflix’s cloud networking ecosystem. We’re looking for a Tech Lead to drive technical direction and execution across high-scale, distributed systems that power observability, control, and developer experience across Netflix infrastructure.

This is an opportunity for a deeply technical leader to shape strategy, architect systems, and influence cross-functional teams across Netflix.

Why This Role?

  • Lead Innovation in Intent-Based Networking - Set technical vision and lead implementation of a modern, intent-driven control plane that empowers developers to focus on product innovation, while the network “just works.”

  • Own Impactful Systems at Scale - Architect and build distributed platforms that process massive volumes of network metadata and deliver real-time insights for developers operating at internet scale.

  • Abstract Complexity, Enable Velocity - Design “set-it-and-forget-it” APIs and services that free product teams from networking concerns, while enabling safe, scalable, and secure operation of the cloud infrastructure.

  • Expand Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) - Be a driving force in the evolution of cloud network management—from fragmented tools to a unified, developer-friendly platform covering VPCs, Load Balancers, Security Groups, and beyond.

  • Advance Network Security & Resilience - Partner with infrastructure, security, and SRE teams to build proactive, adaptive systems that strengthen Netflix’s security posture and operational reliability.

  • Influence Across Boundaries - As a Tech Lead, you'll engage with leaders and engineers across teams—shaping strategy, aligning on priorities, and driving execution across organizational boundaries.

What You’ll Do

  • Set technical direction and lead development of scalable systems, APIs, and tooling that simplify cloud network resource management.

  • Guide the design and implementation of real-time observability platforms using technologies like eBPF, service mesh, and advanced metadata pipelines.

  • Collaborate with teams across Netflix to surface developer needs, align priorities, and deliver high-leverage solutions.

  • Mentor and elevate team members, providing architectural guidance and fostering technical excellence.

  • Drive platform reliability, security, and usability through clear ownership and continual iteration.

  • Use a pragmatic, test-and-learn approach to solve ambiguous and evolving infrastructure challenges.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience leading the design and operation of reliable, distributed systems in large-scale cloud environments.

  • Deep domain expertise in networking, cloud infrastructure, or systems-level observability.

  • Strong programming skills in modern languages (e.g., Java, Go, Kotlin) and familiarity with scalable architectures and data pipelines.

  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders and lead complex projects across team boundaries.

  • A product mindset with empathy for developer experience and an eye toward long-term sustainability.

  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity, making strategic decisions, and driving clarity through action.

You’ll Thrive Here If You

  • Are energized by complex, fuzzy problem spaces and take initiative in driving them forward.

  • Prefer impact over perfection and value experimentation and iteration.

  • Enjoy mentoring and technical leadership as much as hands-on engineering.

  • Seek a high-trust, high-autonomy culture where individuals and teams are empowered to own decisions.

  • Align with Netflix’s culture and see yourself thriving in such an environment.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
