Primary Purpose
We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Principal Engineer to lead the development of the next-generation website for a global eCommerce platform. This role will drive the architecture and implementation of a modern, scalable, and secure web experience using Nuxt, TypeScript, headless CMS and a universal design system. You'll collaborate across teams to deliver a design/customer-centric platform that meets the evolving needs of our users and business.
As a key technical leader, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional consumer experiences through the development and ongoing maintenance of the web experiences of the mission-critical ADUSA eCommerce platform. Your work will span the full software development lifecycle-including analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support-across both consumer-facing and back-office systems. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders and engineering teams to identify efficient, cost-effective solutions that meet strategic objectives. This includes building new features, enhancing existing modules, and integrating third-party packages as needed. You will also play a critical role in ensuring code quality and scalability through rigorous code reviews and architectural oversight.
Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Chicago, IL.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Architect and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance web solutions for an eCommerce platform
- Lead cross-domain architecture design and ensure alignment with business and technical goals
- Champion universal design systems and accessibility standards across the platform
- Build and maintain Nuxt-based applications using TypeScript and GraphQL
- Integrate with headless CMS platforms to deliver dynamic, content-rich experiences
- Leverage Cloudflare Edge Network and Workers for performance and security optimization
- Implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and automate workflows with Jira
- Enforce OWASP standards and secure coding practices throughout the development lifecycle
- Drive code quality through peer reviews, unit testing, and UI automation testing
- Coach and mentor developers across teams, fostering technical growth and innovation
- Facilitate cross-team communication and collaboration to ensure cohesive product delivery
- Advocate for design/customer-centric development practices and continuous improvement
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent
- 8+ years of experience developing code in JavaScript and familiarity with Vue/React/Angular
- Understanding of development best practices
- Experience with HTML Markup standards and CSS
- Awareness of coding with accessibility in mind
- Master in core technologies: Nuxt, VueJS, Pinia/Vuex, TailWind CSS, Webpack, Yarn, ESLint & SonarLint, Jest, Vue Test Utils, GraphQL & Apollo Client/Server
- Participate in sprint planning and design alongside Scrum Team (including level of effort estimates)
- Work with product managers and SMEs to understand the retail industry and customer needs
- Code, develop unit tests, and ensure implementation of software into production goes smoothly alongside business stakeholders, QA, and other developers
- Research and engage in emerging technologies
- Do what it takes to deliver quality code to advance business goals- using your best judgement to find success
- Knowledge of Continuous Delivery process and tools, testing frameworks and practices (preferably GitHub, ArgoCD, etc.)
- Creator, a doer, and a disruptor who will help us seek solutions to problems and meet customer needs. You will be helping us build completely new capabilities, taking an idea and crafting rapid prototypes while learning from real-time feedback
