Chewy is looking to hire a Full Stack Software Engineer II (with a strong backend focus) to join our Chewy Vet Care team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is self-motivated, and has a passion for both business and technology. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Java-based components and front-end interfaces using modern technologies. - Design, build, and maintain both backend services and front-end interfaces that enable rich, adaptable experiences for customers and internal users.
- Lead and participate in medium to large-scale projects by reviewing requirements, translating them into technical solutions, capturing information, writing and developing code, conducting unit testing, presenting status and issues to collaborators, solving open issues and bugs, and ensuring timely delivery and handoff.
- Work with both Java-based microservices and front-end technologies like React.
- Perform design and code reviews across both backend and frontend codebases.
- Build and implement a shift-left approach in testing and test-driven development.
- Work with a geo-distributed team in an agile development environment.
- Collaborate closely with Application Development and Architecture teams.
- Champion engineering perfection and focus on scalability, resiliency, high availability, and performance.
- Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development.
- Mentor and support peers, contributing to Chewy's internal engineering community.
- Work with key partners and service providers to build impactful technical solutions.
What You'll Need:
- Strong knowledge and proven expertise with Java and Spring-based REST services.
- Hands-on engineering attitude with a focus on writing high-quality, maintainable code.
- Experience building and integrating frontend applications using React and GraphQL.
- Strong understanding of Java concurrency, thread-safe design patterns, and cloud-native development in AWS.
- Familiarity with messaging systems like Kafka or ActiveMQ.
- Experience with modern tools and environments including GitHub, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
- BS degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Willingness to travel, if required.
Bonus:
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
- Experience with GitHub and AWS or other cloud platforms.
- Strong understanding of API design and development at scale.
- Proven understanding of frontend architecture, including component-driven design.
- Experience in the eCommerce domain is a plus.
