Applied R&D (AR) consists of target-oriented research either with the goal of solving a particular problem / answering a specific question or for multi-discipline design, development, and implementation of hardware, software, and systems including maintenance support. Supplies techno-economic consulting to clients. AR work is characterized by its detailed and complex nature in order to systematically combine existing knowledge and practices to further developing and incrementally improving products, operational processes, and customer-specific feature development.
Subfamily Description
Software (SWA) comprises the definition, specification, and allocation of requirements from different sources utilizing knowledge of systems engineering processes (specification & architecture). Contains processing of use case and feature requirements into conceptual models, operational scenarios, technical requirements, and functional description. Covers specification, design, implementation, and unit testing of Software (e.g. device drivers, microcode, hardware-related software & firmware) according to the requirements and architecture defined in the systems engineering process. Covers establishment and maintenance of Software Configuration Management (SCM) practices into software development projects, continuously building and integrating infrastructure tools and systems.
- Development of software on a real-time operating system, including design, and coding, as well as maintenance of software

- Scaling and performance improvements through algorithm design
- Interprets business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, and services.
- Applies deep organizational and market knowledge to support strategic decisions.

- Contributes to professional direction and leads teams or projects with moderate risk and resources.
- Serves as a senior specialist and best-practice resource.
- Analyzes, designs, develops, tests, and releases integrated HW/SW solutions per customer requirements.
- Manages subcontractors/partners and technical customer requirements.
- Oversees product HW/SW evolution, documentation, change control, and stakeholder communication.
- Maintains technical expertise, quality standards, and supports process improvements and SW Care (including emergency handling).
Required Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)
- MSCS/MSCE/MSEE with 5+ years of work experience or BSCS/BSCE with 7+ years of work experience is required
- IP network fundamentals, including network architecture, routing protocols
- Advanced operating system fundamentals, including kernel operations, scheduling, memory management, semaphores
- Data structure and algorithm fundamentals, including use cases, order of complexity, performance analysis
Strong programming skills including C, C++.
Desired Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge)
- Work experience in mobile gateway/carrier grade router areas is a plus
- Knowledge of 3GPP/3GPP2 is a plus
