BlackRock Fundamental Fixed Income (FFI) group is overseeing $1.25 trillion in assets, offering an array of fixed income products designed to meet specific client objectives, risk appetites and return profiles. Incorporating the expertise of BlackRock's investment management teams, sector specialists and traders, each client portfolio and product is tailored to reflect specific investment guidelines and objectives with respect to interest rate exposure, sector allocation and credit quality.
As part of the FFI group, the Product Strategy team is responsible for the development and support of Fixed Income products for Institutional and Retail clients, representing these products to internal stakeholders and existing clients and prospects, including investment consultants. The team is centrally involved in the firm’s thought leadership agenda. Critical to the success of the Product Strategy team is the maintenance of strong relationships with the Global Client Business (GCB) groups, which are responsible for managing and developing BlackRock’s client relationships, including within the wealth, institutional and consultant channels.
Position Overview:
BlackRock’s Fundamental Fixed Income (FFI) group is seeking a Short Duration Product Strategist who will assist in client deliverables, product positioning, commercialization and development of actively managed comingled products and separate managed account strategies managed by the US Short Duration investment team. As a member of the FFI Product Strategy team, this position will be expected to provide detailed technical expertise on fixed income markets, investment instruments and portfolio construction, verbally and in written format, to internal stakeholders and externally to clients and prospects supporting stability and growth of the US Short Duration business. This position will also require partnering with BlackRock’s institutional and retail sales team globally to generate short duration fixed income content to support client engagement and contribute to the design and launch of new strategies and solutions for different client types. Finally, this position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, ranging from investment professionals to operational teams, to legal and compliance, and therefore requires a high aptitude for multi-tasking project management skills, being a skilled communicator as well as paying attention to detail and possessing robust work ethic in a fast-paced work environment.
As of June 30, 2025, the US Short Duration team managed $61.9bn in actively managed multi-sector fixed income strategies providing solutions in the form of 40 Act and UCITS funds, an actively managed ETF, and over 100 separate managed accounts, delivering solutions to clients ranging from corporate treasurers to government institutions, to family offices and wealth management clients.
This Vice President will play a pivotal role in supporting and advancing the growth of our Short Duration multi-sector fixed income platform. The individual will work closely with other senior product strategists, portfolio managers, sales, and marketing teams to position our short duration investment capabilities effectively across institutional and retail channels.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a credible representative of the short duration investment team with the ability to detail market conditions, investment philosophy and process, risk positioning, and product suite.
Act as a subject matter expert on Short Duration strategies, contributing to product messaging, performance attribution, and client engagement.
Generate sales ideas that could marry the Short Duration product range with BlackRock’s fixed income capabilities.
Construct model portfolios by incorporating client investment restrictions that meet specific investment objectives and liquidity needs.
Analyze risk & performance metrics and competitor product offerings tohighlight Short Duration capabilities.
Identify new product and business opportunities and highlight potential product fit based on competitive market analysis.
Partner with other senior strategists to support product development, positioning, and cross-functional initiatives.
Respond to complex client inquiries, including due diligence and ad hoc requests.
Contribute to the creation and refinement of pitch books, RFPs, market commentaries, and thought leadership.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders including sales, operations, legal and compliance, risk management, marketing, and portfolio management.
Support junior team members by reviewing materials and providing guidance on best practices.
Measurement of success:
Recognized as a reliable and knowledgeable member of the fixed income product strategy team.
Demonstrated ability to support client and sales engagement through effective product positioning.
Contribution to the development of innovative client support tools and reporting frameworks. Ability to code and employ AI is highly valued.
Active participation in the creation and authorship of impactful fixed income thought leadership content.
Experience/Qualifications:
BA/BS required; advanced degrees or certifications (MBA, CFA, CAIA, CIMA) preferred.
Holder of Series 7 and 63 preferred
5-7 years of experience in asset management or financial services, ideally with exposure to fixed income.
Strong understanding of capital markets and the asset management industry.
Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Bloomberg and Aladdin is a plus.
Preliminary coding capabilities in SQL and/or Python preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must with the ability to articulate complex investment concepts quickly and appropriately to different audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong collaborative mindset.
Highly organized with attention to detail and a proactive work ethic.
Need to be comfortable to work in a fast-paced work environment.
