As a Shield Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting both the platform and its customers, acting as a technical advocate and unblocker for teams using our observability tooling.
What you will do :
- Provide technical guidance to the Atlassian, ensuring user concerns are addressed, best practices are followed and enabling efficient observability at scale.
- Be the voice of the user, advocating for their needs and helping our team prioritise improvements.
- Unblock developers experiencing issues with the platform, troubleshooting and resolving problems efficiently.
- Contribute fixes and improvements to platform services to address user concerns.
- Automate internal tasks and workflows, using scripts, CLIs, or services as appropriate.
- Maintain, write, and review documentation and runbooks for both team and customer use.
- Collaborate with other engineers to deliver reliable, scalable observability solutions.
- Continuously improve our ability to support Atlassian at scale
To set you up for impact on day one, we're looking for:
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering, DevOps or SRE roles, ideally working with cloud-based distributed systems.
- Experience supporting or operating observability platforms (e.g., metrics, logging, tracing).
- Proficiency with at least one programming language (e.g., Golang, Python, Java).
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including reading and understanding unfamiliar codebases.
- Strong communication skills, with a focus on collaboration and customer empathy.
- Experience maintaining technical documentation and runbooks.
- Understanding of container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing recurring issues, with a mindset for continuous improvement.
Nice To Have :
- Experience with Splunk, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tools.
- Familiarity with AWS, GCP or other cloud providers.
- Knowledge of high-volume data pipelines (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka).
- Exposure to security best practices in cloud environments.
