Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Engineer for an exciting Command & Control Engineer opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system, known as the Sentinel ICBM Program.
This position will directly support the Sentinel Program's Command & Launch (C&L) Team as they acquire the weapon system command & control capabilities for the next generation ICBM. Areas of responsibility that fall under the C&L Team include:

  • Weapon system command & control (e.g., missile crew launch console and command data processing equipment, etc.)
  • ICBM nuclear codes/cryptography (i.e., securing the nuclear launch codes and assuring confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of the critical commands)
  • ICBM targeting (i.e., weapon system processing of the strategic missile aim points)
  • Nuclear command, control & communications (NC3) systems (i.e., national communications systems used for receiving Presidential nuclear orders in the launch control center)
  • ICBM command pathways (i.e., hardline & RF networks for voice & data command transmission and reception in the missile field)
  • Airborne launch control capabilities (i.e., secondary launch capability aboard a US Navy E-6B command & control aircraft)
  • Actuation & mechanical systems (e.g., missile suspension system, launcher closure door system, ballistic gas generators, missile umbilical retractors, etc.)
  • Power distribution & endurance systems (e.g., backup generators, emergency batteries, HVAC systems, etc. at the launch facilities)
  • Physical security systems (e.g., motion sensors, visual sensors, delay features, etc. at the launch facilities)

Additional Responsibilities
The Command & Control engineer will be responsible for supporting the U.S. Air Force customer in the review and evaluation of the Sentinel ICBM prime contractor's designs, documentation, architectures, and Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) products related to Sentinel command & control subsystems. Additionally, this team engineer will work directly with Air Force stakeholders in managing the integration of government-furnished equipment and property into the Sentinel weapon system design. Our team provides expertise on weapon system and systems integration lab architectures; concepts of operation; modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A); and plans for addressing command & control integration options. This team member will also coordinate and integrate actions with other project managers, engineers, logisticians, system testers, and external government agencies. Our current team includes staff with extensive subject matter expertise in the Minuteman III ICBM weapon system (including the Airborne Launch Control System) and actively participates in ongoing studies and assessments for this next generation ICBM system.
About The Program
The Sentinel Program (formerly known as GBSD) is an enormous and complex "Mega-Project" replacing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without a doubt, Sentinel is one of the Department of Defense's (DoD's) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment or replacement of more than five hundred aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly-designed, technologically-advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command & control system (including an updated airborne launch capability) as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the next 4-5 decades. This is a long-term project with the weapon system anticipated to deploy over a nine-year period beginning in the late 2020s and remaining operational until at least 2075.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • BS/MS degree in any Engineering discipline, Computer Science, Software, Physics or Mathematics
  • Minimum of 7 years (5 years with MS degree) of progressive experience in systems integration and analysis of hardware and software systems/processes.
  • 2 years' experience leading system design, integration, and analytical efforts.
  • Must have a current Secret security clearance or higher (within last 6 years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and be able to obtain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable timeframe.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience with technical review events is highly desirable (SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
  • Knowledge or experience working with systems engineering tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture and DOORS is desirable
  • Proficiency using office software such as Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is highly desirable.
  • Self-motivated with excellent verbal and written communications skills in addition to sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with government customer and company personnel.
  • Knowledge & Experience with datalinks is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering or Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with software / hardware integration is a plus.
  • Experience with integrating requirements into existing acquisitions lifecycle phases, milestones, and deliverables using systems engineering principles and methodologies is desirable.
  • DoD acquisitions program experience is desirable.
