Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
You'll join a high-performing team of mixed methods researchers leading strategic, high-impact work across Atlassian's products and platforms. We partner closely with design, product, and engineering to shape vision, drive innovation, and deliver actionable insights at scale. As a senior researcher, you'll drive high-priority research, balancing speed and quality in execution. You'll mentor others, foster continuous learning, and help set the direction for research excellence that influences millions of users worldwide.
What you'll do
  • Lead impactful research: Design and drive research projects end-to-end-scoping, fieldwork, analysis, and synthesis-focused on uncovering opportunities to accelerate and improve AI-powered experiences.
  • Deepen understanding: Apply a broad toolkit (e.g., surveys, interviews, ethnographic studies, experiments) to provide nuanced insights into user needs, behaviors, and workflows.
  • Partner strategically: Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and other teams to ensure insights directly inform product and platform direction.
  • Translate complexity: Communicate findings clearly and persuasively to non-research audiences-including senior leaders-through storytelling, visualization, and actionable recommendations.
  • Drive adoption of insights: Help teams interpret and apply research to real-world challenges, supporting alignment and change management as AI transforms products and practices.
  • Advance the craft: Introduce new tools and methods, promote research best practices, and foster a culture of curiosity and continuous improvement.
  • Mentor and coach: Support peers and junior team members by building skills in research practice, AI literacy, and creative problem-solving.
  • Model collaboration: Champion inclusivity, knowledge-sharing, and team cohesion to strengthen Atlassian's research culture.

Your background
  • 5+ years of user research in enterprise/complex software environments, with proven influence on roadmaps.
  • Advanced degree (Master's/PhD in Psychology, Anthropology, Human Factors, HCI, Organizational Behavior, etc.).
  • Expertise in mixed methods; skilled in tools like Qualtrics, Dovetail, DisplayR, Maze.
  • Strong statistical analysis fluency (regression, A/B testing, clustering).
  • Skilled communicator, able to create engaging, narrative‑driven insights for decision‑makers.
  • Trusted collaborator with cross‑disciplinary influence.
  • Thrives in ambiguity; excited by the challenges AI brings to workflows and experience design

Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
