At Day[9]’s unannounced game studio, we are crafting a next-generation multiplayer strategy game for PC. As a Senior UI/UX Designer, you will play a critical role in shaping how players understand, interact with, and enjoy a complex real-time game. You will be responsible for designing and implementing player-facing UI systems that are clear, responsive, and deeply integrated with gameplay.
This role sits at the intersection of design, implementation, and systems thinking. You will work hands-on in Unreal Engine to prototype, build, and polish UI, while collaborating closely with Design and Engineering to ensure that gameplay systems are communicated clearly and perform reliably in a real-time environment.
ResponsibilitiesUI/UX Design & Implementation: Design, prototype, and implement high-quality in-game and out-of-game UI using Unreal Engine’s UI systems, with a strong focus on clarity, responsiveness, and usability.
Real-Time Gameplay UI: Build UI that supports complex, information-dense, real-time gameplay, helping players make confident decisions under pressure.
Blueprint-Driven Development: Own UI implementation in Unreal using Blueprints, including widget logic, layout behavior, animations, transitions, and polish.
Systems-Level UX Thinking: Collaborate with designers and engineers to shape UI flows for complex player-facing systems, identifying friction points and proposing effective solutions.
Localization-Aware UI Design: Design UI layouts that are resilient to localization constraints, including variable text length, different character sets, and internationalization requirements.
World-Space & Screen-Space UI: Implement both traditional screen-space UI (menus, HUDs, overlays) and in-world UI elements (indicators, tooltips, contextual information).
Technical Collaboration: Work closely with engineering partners to integrate UI with underlying game systems, including data binding, state-driven updates, and performance considerations.
Iteration & Polish: Participate in frequent reviews, iterating on UI designs and implementations to achieve a high-quality bar for usability, readability, and feel.
Cross-Discipline Communication: Communicate clearly with design, engineering, art, and production to align on goals, constraints, and solutions.
Unreal UI Expertise: Deep fluency with Unreal Engine’s UI workflows, including Blueprint-based UI development and widget systems.
UI/UX Systems Thinking: Strong understanding of UX principles as applied to complex game systems, including information hierarchy, player feedback, and interaction flow.
Real-Time Game Experience: Demonstrated experience playing and understanding real-time strategy, MOBA, or similar real-time games, with strong intuition for player needs.
Technical Awareness: Comfortable working alongside engineers on data-driven UI, including state-based updates and performance-conscious design.
Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguous problems and take ownership of solutions.
Experience: Previous experience designing and implementing UI/UX for Unreal games.
Familiarity with MVVM-style UI architectures (eg or similar data-binding workflows.
Experience implementing world-space UI elements in Unreal.
Basic UI art skills, including the ability to create clean mockups, placeholders, or simple visual assets.
Experience working on multiplayer or real-time games.
Experience playing RTS or MOBA titles.
