Senior Technical Product Manager

You used to write the code; now you define the vision. We’re looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager who still loves getting their hands dirty.

About Sand

Sand Technologies is a global Physical AI company using data and AI to make critical industries work better. We partner with governments, cities and enterprises to improve how essential systems operate across healthcare, water, energy, telecommunications and infrastructure.

Our work delivers proven real-world impact. We have built AI systems that help manage London’s water supply, supported telecom network planning across hundreds of cities, and developed digital healthcare platforms serving tens of millions of people across Africa. From intelligent command centers to AI-powered infrastructure platforms, we help organizations sense, analyze and act in complex environments.

Our people are ambitious, curious and relentlessly practical. Our teams work alongside clients in the field, solving hard problems and deploying solutions that last. With colleagues across Africa, Europe, the UK and the US, we operate across the full stack - from research and engineering to deployment and capability building.

Our mission is simple: to harness AI to solve humanity’s most pressing challenges.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Technical Product Manager to take end-to-end ownership of our core developer and AI platform experience. This is a deeply hands-on role designed for a former engineer who transitioned into product management. You won’t be managing from a distance. You will experiment with our APIs daily, deploy models, build prototypes using the latest AI agents, analyze system telemetry, and speak directly with our technical users.

What you’ll do
  • Own the product vision for our core technical platform, ensuring it is highly performant, secure, and provides an unmatched developer experience (DX).
  • Live in the product daily - dogfooding APIs, deploying test environments, catching regressions early, and validating the end-to-end user journey firsthand.
  • Maintain and develop reference applications and infrastructure-as-code templates that double as showcase demos for clients and living regression tests for engineering.
  • Build proofs-of-concept and prototypes utilizing the latest AI capabilities and LLMs to validate new feature ideas before committing engineering resources.
  • Manage and adapt the roadmap across immediate feature releases, medium-term platform integrations, and long-term architectural initiatives.
  • Align product planning with engineering sprints, infrastructure upgrades, and the complex constraints of enterprise client deployments.
  • Define clear problem statements, success criteria, and technical scopes, then collaborate closely with engineering leads to design the right solutions.
  • Champion our core user personas (Data Engineers, DevOps, Enterprise Developers, ML Engineers) and prioritize solving their biggest pain points, from clunky integrations to slow deployment cycles.
  • Run a consistent pipeline of user interviews with technical stakeholders to ground your roadmap decisions in real-world workflows.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with engineering, data science, marketing, and sales architecture teams.
Who you are
  • Has a professional background in software engineering (e.g., Python, TypeScript) prior to transitioning into product management.
  • Has 5+ years of experience in technical product management or a comparable product leadership role within a complex, highly technical domain (B2B SaaS, Data, or AI platforms).
  • Is a hands-on product builder who still loves diving into documentation, running queries, or testing endpoints, rather than operating solely through status reports.
  • Has experience with AI development workflows and a deep curiosity about how AI agents are reshaping software engineering and data analysis.
  • Can distill complex technical challenges into clear roadmaps, crisp Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), and actionable engineering tasks.
  • Possesses exceptional communication skills - capable of translating deep technical constraints to executive stakeholders and overarching business goals to engineering teams.
  • Is ready to act as a product evangelist externally, representing Sand Technologies in community interactions and technical forums.
  • Take Developer Experience (DX) personally - you view a confusing API payload or an unhelpful error message as a bug that needs to be fixed immediately.
  • Willing to travel 50 - 75% to be on-site with clients in the EMEA region.
How we work

Due to the highly collaborative and internationally distributed nature of our work, successful candidates must be comfortable operating in small teams while contributing to larger, globally coordinated efforts. A strong sense of ownership, self-motivation and discipline in maintaining clear and consistent communication through virtual collaboration tools and video conferencing is essential.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
