The Role
The Senior Technical Accountant will report to the Director of Revenue and Technical Accounting. This role will be the key contributor to revenue processes and will assist with financial reporting, technical accounting and other ad-hoc strategic projects. This role is responsible for driving efficiency and improvements within our processes and systems, the analysis and reporting of revenue under ASC 606, and the monthly close procedures and reconciliations for revenue, sales tax, and capitalized software development. The ideal candidate is a well-rounded performer who thrives in a fast-paced and demanding environment, embraces a collaborative work style and possesses a customer and operations focus.
Responsibilities
- Perform monthly close activities, including preparation of revenue, accounts receivable, deferred revenue and capitalized software development journal entries, reconciliations, and flux analyses
- Perform monthly sales tax reconciliations and filing procedures
- Develop and implement process improvements to streamline revenue recognition and shorten close timelines
- Support the preparation of financial statements for annual financial audits and debt compliance reporting
- Assist with annual financial audits, including preparation of revenue schedules and supporting documentation to the external auditors
- Assist in performing technical accounting research and prepare documentation around audit risk areas
- Provide clear and concise flux commentary for both balance sheet and income statement accounts/trends on a monthly basis for assigned accounts
- Monitor regulatory or business changes and address impacts to revenue accounting operations
- Help enhance documentation, reconciliation schedules, and analyses that support strong internal control environment
- Support ERP enhancements and system implementations, as needed
- Support the development and measurement of top line KPIs
- Liaise with cross-functional teams (GL Team, FP&A, Product, etc.) to provide strategic insights and collaborate on shared goals
- Ad hoc projects and technical accounting research as needed to support the role and function
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA highly desired, but not required
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in a fast-paced and rapidly changing business environment
- Experience with a Big-4 or equivalent national accounting firm is highly desirable
- SaaS or Technology industry experience is preferred
- Strong technical accounting skills and exposure to ASC 606 revenue recognition rules under U.S. GAAP
- Experience working with one or more financial ERP/general ledger systems. NetSuite experience is a plus
- Ability to demonstrate strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively operate in a fast-paced team environment, manage competing priorities, and adhere to tight deadlines
- Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Base Compensation Range
$100,000 - $110,000 annually
Base salary is one component of total compensation. Employees may also be eligible for an annual bonus or commission. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
