POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is the owner and architect of the entire modern data stack (Snowflake/dbt) from end to end, ensuring our data is clean, standardized, and accessible. Beyond the code, you will partner directly with cross-functional teams to steer the data into informed business strategy, develop insightful Tableau dashboards, and other ad-hoc & financial analysis.

* Primary residence must be in the following states: CA, DC, FL, IL, MA, MI, NC, NJ, NY, NV, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX & WA

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Data Architecture & Engineering

  • Own the Stack: Serve as the primary owner of our Snowflake and dbt instances. You will manage data flows, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Pipeline Development: Set up and maintain API connections to ingest data from key sources (Marketing platforms, Shopify, Booking systems, etc.).
  • Data Modeling: Architect and maintain the integrity of our data warehouse. You will build and optimize Intermediate (INT) and Aggregate (AGG) tables to serve downstream reporting.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement automated testing and data cleaning protocols to ensure "Standardization" across all datasets. If the data breaks, you are the first to know and fix it.

2. Strategic Business & Financial Analysis

  • Revenue Modeling: Partner with Finance to build, maintain, and enhance complex revenue and forecast models.
  • Advanced Analytics: Utilize Python, SQL to run regression and other ad-hoc analyses and case studies to answer critical business questions. Including Real Estate Strategy, Retail/Inventory Strategy, Client Retention, LTV, Behavioral Analysis, etc.
  • Leading Indicators: Proactively identify trends and "leading indicators" of business health rather than just reporting on lagging metrics.

3. Visualization & Stakeholder Partnership

  • Tableau Development: Co-partner on the design and delivery of high-value Tableau dashboards for Support Center and Studio Owners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Support: Act as the bridge between business units, ensuring data and reporting is being served promptly and accurately. Partnering closely with Retail, Marketing, Digital, and Operations teams.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND KPI'S

  • Ensuring all data sources are connected and building a roadmap of future data onboarding.
  • Data Quality Score: Achieve a <5% error rate in downstream Tableau reporting caused by upstream pipeline failures; and continuous QA/QC on existing SQL database logic.
  • Standardization of Retail analytics and assisting inventory management.
  • Delivery of cross-functional Tableau dashboards & reports (based on prioritization and business needs).
  • Insight-to-Action: Deliver quarterly "Deep Dive" case studies (e.g., Retail Inventory optimization or Client Retention) that result in at least one documented strategic pivot or cost-saving measure.
  • SLA on Ad-Hoc Requests: Maintain a 3-day turnaround for high-priority ad-hoc analysis requests while maintaining a centralized, transparent backlog.

Requirements
  • Alignment with barre3 Core Values: Practice Authenticity, Stronger Together, Love of Learning, Give Generously, Make It Happen
  • Technical Stack: Expert-level SQL and hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt (data build tool).
  • Programming: Proficiency in Python for data analysis and regression modeling.
  • Visualization: Strong experience building interactive dashboards in Tableau.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience building financial models and/or working closely with FP&A and Accounting teams.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in data science, business intelligence, etc.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, or Economics, etc;

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
