About the Job
Title: Senior Software Engineer
Location: Boston
Reports to: CEO
Stage: Early growth
Website: https://www.hellolevo.com/
Why This Role
Levo helps healthcare providers recruit and retain frontline talent: nurses, caregivers, clinicians, and more.
We're building the system of action for healthcare employment, a platform that helps providers recruit faster, retain better, and predict staffing risks before they happen. Voice AI and agentic workflows sit at the core of how we do it: agents that talk to clinicians, triage signal, and take action so humans can focus on judgment, not repetition.
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build it. You'll ship meaningful product surface area from day one, work directly with the CEO and our earliest customers, and grow into deeper ownership as Levo scales from early product-market fit to multi-site, enterprise deployments.
What You'll Own
Building & Shipping
Design, build, and ship core product features end-to-end across our stack: voice AI agents that talk to clinicians, agentic workflows that triage and act on signal, survey pipelines, escalation routing, candidate-matching intelligence, and analytics surfaces.
Take meaningful slices of the system and make them yours. Own them through design, implementation, rollout, and iteration.
Build evals and guardrails for our AI systems. In production, "it worked in the demo" isn't enough.
Product Thinking
Translate customer pain points into clear technical solutions, and push back when the right answer is different from the asked-for one.
Shape what our voice agents and AI workflows actually do: where to automate, where to escalate to a human, and how to know when we got it right.
Partner with Jason (CEO) and other engineers on prioritization and tradeoffs.
Join customer calls, see the product used in the wild, and let what you learn shape what you build next.
Raising the Bar
Contribute to engineering standards: code review, testing discipline, deployment hygiene, incident response.
Mentor newer engineers as the team grows; share what you know generously.
Invest in developer experience (CI/CD, observability, feedback loops) so the whole team ships faster.
Who You Are
3-6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems that real users depend on.
Comfortable across our stack, or confident you'll get comfortable fast: React, TypeScript, Python.
Hands-on experience (or strong curiosity) building with LLMs and agentic workflows: tool use, function calling, multi-step reasoning, evals, and the messy reality of getting agents to behave in production.
Bonus if you've worked with voice AI: real-time speech (STT/TTS), telephony integrations (Twilio, LiveKit, Vapi, Retell, or similar), latency tuning, and conversation design for spoken interactions.
A product thinker who sees engineering as leverage, not labor. You reason through tradeoffs and can explain them to non-engineers.
Energized by ambiguity. You like shaping 0→1 systems and don't need perfectly specced tickets to make progress.
Humble enough to learn from customers and teammates, confident enough to disagree well.
Motivated by impact. Your code directly helps healthcare organizations retain clinicians and improve patient care.
