As a Senior Software Engineer (EMR Spark) on the Cloud Data Platform, you will play a pivotal role in designing and delivering next-generation data and analytics SaaS services. We seek a passionate engineer with deep expertise in the modern Big Data stack and public cloud, eager to solve complex challenges at internet scale. Your work will directly impact Guidewire’s mission to transform insurance technology and empower customers with actionable insights.

Job Description

What you’ll do
  • Design, build, and operate scalable, multi-tenant cloud-native data platform components using technologies such as Spark, Kafka, Hadoop, Flink, and Hive.

  • Develop and optimize data pipelines and analytics services to process billions of real-time events, enabling AI/ML-powered SaaS solutions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance data products that support analytics, data science, and business applications.

  • Drive adoption of best practices in cloud engineering, data security, and operational excellence, contributing to Guidewire’s platform reliability and compliance goals.

  • Mentor and support team members, fostering a culture of curiosity, innovation, and continuous improvement.

  • Partner with product and operations teams to launch new features and ensure customer success.

  • Contribute to Guidewire’s transformative innovation initiatives, including the infusion of GenAI and automation into our data platform.

What you’ll bring

Required

  • 8+ years’ experience in a Software Engineer role within a data platform or data engineering team.

  • Demonstrated ability to embrace AI and apply it to your current role as well as data-driven insights to drive innovation, productivity, and continuous improvement. ³

  • Advanced experience with Spark (preferably EMR), Java and/or Scala, and the modern Big Data ecosystem (Kafka, Hadoop, Flink, Hive, etc.).

  • Proven track record building and operating large-scale, cloud-native data platforms or analytics SaaS services in a public cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with a focus on secure, scalable, and reliable software engineering.

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, thriving in a highly cross-functional, agile environment.

  • Commitment to operational excellence, security, and customer-centricity.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $148,000 - $222,000 . Your base pay will depend on your experience, skills, education, training, and location among other factors. All full-time positions or part-time roles working 30 hours or more a week at Guidewire are eligible for benefits that support their health and well-being including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a company sponsored retirement plan. In addition, some roles may be eligible for the annual company bonus plan, commissions, and/or long term incentive awards which are contingent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, company and employee performance.
