The Agency and Producer Data team in USRM Distribution Technology is looking for a Senior Software Engineer. In this role, you'll be part of an agile squad focused on modernizing our Agency and Producer applications and the underlying platform which supports Personal Lines and Small Commercial independent agencies. These applications handle agency data as well as license and appointment data for agencies and agents. You will work with your squad to deliver innovative solutions and share best practices across the broader organization. The solutions you and your squad deliver are needed to transact agency and producer data throughout USRM and are vital to being able to quote and issue all independent agency business making this role key to our success in the independent agency space.
Our team focuses on new development, working with new and emerging technologies such as AWS, Spring Boot, Node, React, JPA, DevOps, CI/CD (Bamboo and Jenkins), and Microservices. Additionally, you'll develop applications that perform complex calculations and services using your Java, Node.js, and React skills.
Responsibilities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to deliver complex software solutions
  • Comprehensive problem-solver: As you manage the end-to-end development of software products, you'll analyze issues at the system level and handle any complications that arise by implementing effective solutions
  • Skilled technical engineer: You'll document and lead the implementation of technical features, improvements and innovations through advanced abilities with Java, AWS, and backend capabilities amongst others
  • Forward thinker: Simply fixing the problem isn't enough; using your proactive mindset and initiative, you'll continually look for ways to improve performance, quality and efficiency
Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of software engineering experience
  • A background in business operations and strategies, with a focus on business IT
  • A history of translating client requirements into technical designs
  • Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset
  • Collaboration, adaptability, flexibility and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally distributed development team
  • Strong oral and written communication skills - and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs
  • Proficiency in software engineering languages and tools, including Java and RESTful services, spanning horizontal and vertical packages
  • An understanding of how modifications affect different parts of a system and an ability to explain your decision-making process to non-engineers
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
