Who Are We?

Postman is the world’s leading API platform, used by more than 40 million developers and 500,000 organizations, including 98% of the Fortune 500. Postman is helping developers and professionals across the globe build the API-first world by simplifying each step of the API lifecycle and streamlining collaboration—enabling users to create better APIs, faster.

The company is headquartered in San Francisco and has offices in Boston, New York, and Bangalore - where Postman was founded. Postman is privately held, with funding from Battery Ventures, BOND, Coatue, CRV, Insight Partners, and Nexus Venture Partners. Learn more at postman.com or connect with Postman on X via @getpostman.

P.S: We highly recommend reading The "API-First World" graphic novel to understand the bigger picture and our vision at Postman.

The Opportunity

AI is changing how developers work—and we’re making sure Postman is at the forefront of that change. As part of the API Client team, you’ll play a key role in accelerating our AI-native future: building new ways for developers to interact with APIs using large language models, and deeply embedding AI into the fabric of our core product.

We’re not just reacting to AI trends—we’re defining them. That means building fast, shipping bold ideas, and staying ruthlessly focused on execution. AI moves fast, and so do we. If you’re looking for a role where the best roadmap is what you ship, this is it.

Our current bets include:

  • A brand-new MCP client that lets users build, test, and debug AI tools like they would any other API.
  • Bring-your-own-model support so developers can use any LLM—local or a hosted one separate from the common models (OpenAI, Gemini, etc.)
  • A full-stack AI protocol designed to make testing and evaluating different models easy and seamless
  • Deep AI-native workflows in the client—from inline suggestions to real-time generation, evaluation, and observability.

If you’re excited about AI’s potential and want to roll up your sleeves to build it into real developer workflows that impact millions of developers daily, join us!

What You’ll Do

We’re embedding AI directly into the Postman client—and rethinking how the client itself works along the way. You’ll:

  • Build intuitive, powerful UI surfaces to help users work with LLMs like they do APIs.
  • Design and implement backend services to support bring-your-own-model workflows.
  • Evolve the MCP client—Postman’s interface for building and debugging tools, prompts, and resources.
  • Stay on top of the fast-moving AI landscape and make sharp, informed decisions about what’s worth building now.
  • Collaborate closely with design and product to make AI-native workflows feel first-class and seamless.
  • Help shape the protocol layer: how we represent tools, resources, and AI interactions in a standardized, interoperable way.
  • Lead by example: ship great code, help others grow, and drive urgency around high-leverage opportunities.
You’ll Thrive Here If You
  • Have 3–4+ years of experience building full-stack or frontend-heavy applications at scale.
  • Have deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript and React, you probably may even describe yourself as “full-stack JavaScript | TypeScript” (we heavily leverage Node.js and it’s unlikely you can be successful just shipping “frontend code”)
  • Stay current with the latest in AI/LLM tooling (e.g., OpenAI, Claude, local model runtimes, LangChain, etc.).
  • Are energized by ambiguity and change—you don’t wait for direction, you generate momentum.
  • Think like a builder and a product thinker. You want to invent what’s next, not just implement specs.
  • Believe the best roadmap is built through fast learning and frequent shipping.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience working on or around LLM applications, AI agents, or real-time collaborative tools.
  • Familiarity with AI-native protocols (e.g., MCP, OpenAI Tool Calling, or OpenAPI extensions).
  • Background in developer tools or internal platforms.
  • Interest in protocol design, agent frameworks, or distributed systems.
Why This Role?
  • You’ll work on one of the most exciting surfaces in the company—where AI meets APIs.
  • You’ll ship work that influences how millions of developers build, debug, and think.
  • You’ll help Postman go from AI-enabled to AI-native—and shape the future of how software gets built.

The reasonably estimated base salary for this role ranges from $200,000.00 to $250,000.00, plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

What Else?

In addition to Postman's pay-on-performance philosophy, and a flexible schedule working with a fun, collaborative team, Postman offers a comprehensive set of benefits, including full medical coverage, flexible PTO, wellness reimbursement, and a monthly lunch stipend. Along with that, our wellness programs will help you stay in the best of your physical and mental health. Our frequent and fascinating team-building events will keep you connected, while our donation-matching program can support the causes you care about. We’re building a long-term company with an inclusive culture where everyone can be the best version of themselves.

At Postman, we embrace a hybrid work model. For all roles based out of San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and New York, employees are expected to come into the office 3-days a week. We were thoughtful in our approach which is based on balancing flexibility and collaboration and grounded in feedback from our workforce, leadership team, and peers. The benefits of our hybrid office model will be shared knowledge, brainstorming sessions, communication, and building trust in-person that cannot be replicated via zoom.
