Senior Software Engineer - Java

At Squarespace, our backend engineers work on Product Engineering teams, which are dedicated to creating the most seamless, integrated products possible. This is a hybrid role working from our NYC office 3 days per week. You will report to the Product Engineering Team Lead.

We are hiring for the following product team(s):

• Website Foundations: This team maintains and evolves the core technology that powers the Squarespace CMS on the backend. High performance, reliable APIs and efficient database access, caching customer requests and splitting apart a monolithic codebase are all within this team's scope. This team owns and maintains the crown jewel of Squarespace, our website builder
• Pricing + Merchandising Platform: The team's mission is to establish the alignment between customer value and price during purchasing and plan change processes. They aim to help customers choose and purchase the subscription plan that best aligns with their needs and goals, by applying data-driven insights to ensure customers receive value.
• Platform Billing: This team is part of the Monetization Platform at Squarespace. We're the backend that powers most of Squarespace's ability to bundle and invoice products. The Billing team handles customer subscriptions, contracts, and renewals, and making financial data available to our customers downstream. You'll work on a team that's building distributed services at scale that handle $700MM+ and millions of customers a year.
• Checkouts + Payments Platform: The team’s mission is to provide an amazing checkout experience for customers purchasing Squarespace products. We aim to help customers choose and purchase the subscription plan that best aligns with their needs and goals. We also provide clear pathways for customers to change their subscriptions as their needs change. Finally, we want customers to pay with the payment method they are most comfortable with so we add additional options..

• Practice disciplined software engineering, writing server-side code, create high-volume production applications, and developing prototypes quickly.
• You will lead the development of new features and build backend services with Java.
• Collaborate with other engineers and designers to provide intuitive customer-focused experiences.

• 7+ years of development experience in Java, Python, Go or another Object-oriented language. Experience developing large-scale software.
• A solid foundation in computer science, with competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design practices.
• A degree in Computer Science or related or equivalent industry experience.

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
