Join us as we work to create a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Forge team within the Internal Development Platform zone.
You are an experienced developer who is intrigued by building and maintaining libraries and tools that enable other engineers to deliver web applications which ensure doctors, patients, and medical staff provide or experience exceptional medical care. You are excited to support coworkers with the efficient creation and maintenance of robust front-end experiences across a wide variety of products and use cases. You balance the importance of adhering to sustainable coding standards with the need to provide customers with software that addresses their biggest challenges. You are curious about the ever-evolving landscape of both front-end and healthcare technologies and capable of productively cultivating that knowledge.
The Team: The Forge team builds and maintains the Forge Design System, athena’s internal UX framework for modular front-end development, and supports other athena developers in developing web applications with it. The Forge Design System is used in over 450 micro-front-end applications, supporting use cases within billing, partner integrations, and medical encounters. We create the components that provide athena’s users with a consistent and delightful front-end experience as they work to manage clinical practices and provide patient care. We supply the foundation and building blocks for the systems in which medical practitioners and administrators work every day. We are also expanding the team’s capacity to enhance stability and improve performance across our front-end platform.
Key Responsibilities
Develop UI components with React and TypeScript that enable athena’s developers to create feature-rich, highly usable, and easily maintainable front-end applications efficiently.
Support athena developers and designers through expertise with front-end technologies and a strong understanding of the Forge Design System.
Document visual and architectural changes within the design system with clear instructions and informative examples.
Use third-party dependencies and packages intentionally and monitor their utility over time.
Design composable UI components and comprehensible APIs.
Adhere to and maintain front-end development best practices and architectural standards.
Typical Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a professional software engineer.
Strong proficiency with React, TypeScript, Webpack, and HTML/CSS.
Experience with writing unit tests, documentation, and informative demos.
Experience with server-side JavaScript, especially Node.js.
Experience with planning, development, and delivery on an Agile team.
Familiarity with git usage and CI/CD tools.
Familiarity with AWS, Docker, and Drupal.
Familiarity with collaborating alongside internal stakeholders.
Good understanding of full-stack development, especially navigating front-end and back-end systems is desirable.
Experience with development of platforms that support front-end stability, performance, and maintainability is desirable.
