Senior Software Engineer (Data)

Solovis is a leading portfolio management and analytics platform helping institutional investors navigate today's complex global markets with clarity and confidence. Backed by Insight Partners, we are building the next chapter of growth by investing in people and product to raise the bar on quality and client outcomes. Our team is driven by a culture of disciplined execution, humility, and curiosity where AI is at the core of how we operate, innovate, and serve clients.

At Solovis, you will join a tech-forward, growth-minded team that believes in learning fast, thinking big, and delivering meaningful impact for asset owners worldwide. Our companies are not the largest or flashiest, but they are among the best-run software businesses, creating value for customers and shareholders at an accelerated pace.

The Role

The Senior Software Engineer (Data) designs, builds, and maintains scalable data pipelines and data infrastructure that support reliable data ingestion, transformation, validation, and delivery across our products and internal systems.

This role works closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions, build reliable ETL/ELT workflows, and ensure data is accurate, timely, and production-ready. The ideal candidate brings strong backend engineering fundamentals, experience with cloud-based data platforms, and a focus on building observable and maintainable data systems. This role participates in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.

What You Will Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines for ingesting, transforming, validating, and delivering data
  • Build reliable data workflows that support batch and event-driven processing
  • Partner with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical solutions
  • Develop backend services, APIs, and data processing jobs using Python, Java, and related technologies
  • Implement data validation, reconciliation, and quality checks to reduce downstream defects and improve trust in data
  • Monitor and troubleshoot production data pipelines, identifying root causes and implementing long-term fixes
  • Optimize data processing performance, database queries, and infrastructure usage
  • Maintain clear technical documentation for data flows, pipeline logic, operational runbooks, and system design
  • Contribute to sprint commitments and release goals through disciplined execution and strong ownership
  • Support CI/CD practices, automated testing, and deployment of data engineering solutions

What We Are Looking For

Engineering Background

  • 5 or more years of professional experience in software engineering, backend engineering, or data engineering
  • Strong proficiency in Python and Java
  • Production ownership history: you have shipped non-trivial data systems and been accountable when things went wrong
  • Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines, batch processing, data validation, and data reconciliation
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization
  • Experience building and operating systems on AWS, using Docker, Kubernetes, and AKS
  • Familiarity with GitLab pipelines and CI/CD practices
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
