Re:Build was founded to pioneer a profitable model for the revitalization of US manufacturing. We’ve assembled a powerful set of complimentary capabilities and lines of business that enable us to pursue a wide range of end markets. Our acquired businesses are grounded in build-to-print and by-the-hour engineering and design services, and we’re leveraging their combined expertise to migrate to increasingly sophisticated program development and production, as well as the generation of our own products. Our unique set of capabilities lend themselves to highly complex systems and products, and we offer customers a range of services including product and systems design, automation, fabrication, assembly, and large volume contract manufacturing. Our customers span a wide array of industries including aerospace, defense, mobility, healthcare, pharma, biotech, clean tech, chemicals, energy, lifestyle, food production, and industrial equipment.

Who we are looking for

As a Sr. Software Engineer at Re:Build, you'll play a key role in building systems from scratch, rapidly prototyping new product concepts, and evolving those into robust, scalable platforms. You will be leveraging existing AI tools such as coding agent to accelerate the development process, and researching and experimenting with emerging technologies to achieve product differentiation. You will evaluate build v.s. buy decisions throughout the system architecture. You will lead the development of scalable software systems that power advanced AI applications—including agentic AI workflows, AI frameworks, and intelligent infrastructure.

You are energized by diving deep into technical challenges, experimenting with emerging AI capabilities, and designing high-performance architectures that can scale with the business. You will be working with product leaders, AI researchers, and domain experts to turn product requirements and research discoveries to customer facing prototypes and production grade applications.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

What you get to do
  • Rapidly prototype early product concepts, helping teams test hypotheses and iterate based on user feedback.
  • Architect and implement core software systems that power agentic AI and autonomous workflows, integrating modern AI frameworks and orchestration tools.
  • Build systems that balance speed of iteration with long-term scalability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Define and implement the AI software stack—including tools for data pipelines, distributed systems, container orchestration, and cloud-native services.
  • Work closely with AI researchers, product managers, and business teams to bring agentic systems from concept to production.
  • Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, demonstrating a strong ability to learn, adapt, and ramp up quickly on new tools and paradigms.
  • Lead the design of scalable MLOps and data infrastructure to support rapid experimentation, model training, deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote the use of standard methodologies in software engineering, with a focus on code quality, security, observability, CI/CD, and architectural standards.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation across the team through mentorship, code reviews, and thought leadership.
What you bring to the team
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in system architecture and distributed computing.
  • Highly effective in producing excellent quality code with or without coding agents.
  • Deep understanding of agentic AI, LLM-based systems, and their orchestration at runtime.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C++) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies—whether open-source libraries, AI frameworks, or cloud-native services.
  • Experience with end-to-end MLOps pipelines, model versioning, feature stores, and continuous training/deployment workflows.
  • Passion for both early-stage experimentation and long-term system design—with a strong product sense and user empathy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across product, AI, and engineering teams.
  • Prior experience at a startup or innovation lab working on zero-to-one software products is a plus.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
