Bloom Credit is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join its Engineering team, and lead quality assurance (QA) initiatives for our innovative B2B consumer-focused and developer-friendly financial service platform.
This will be Bloom’s first dedicated QA role, and be responsible for building the initial quality assurance (QA) strategy and test automation frameworks from the ground up. This individual will have end-to-end ownership of the testing lifecycle and must be capable of simultaneously progressing a medium-to-long-term vision, and delivering tactical improvements that impact quality today.
The ideal candidate is not just a tester, but a quality evangelist. They are a self-starter who is invested in Bloom’s mission and product. This person is excited by the challenge of designing and implementing quality processes for an organization, has a builder's mindset, and is not afraid to get their hands dirty with the code base. They are a relentless problem-solver who can spot issues before they happen and who empowers the entire engineering team to take ownership of quality.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the QA foundation: Architect, develop, and maintain the initial test automation frameworks for both front-end and back-end services from scratch.
- Establish testing culture: Implement "shift-left" testing practices, advocating for quality and testability throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Develop comprehensive test plans: Create and execute strategies for unit, integration, end-to-end, API, security, and performance testing.
- Optimize the CI/CD pipeline: Integrate automated tests into the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline to provide rapid feedback to the development team.
- Perform diverse testing: Execute and develop a mix of manual, exploratory, and automated tests to validate core product functionality and identify edge cases.
- Troubleshoot and debug: Investigate, report, and manage software defects, working closely with developers to debug and validate fixes.
- Plan for scale: Make strategic decisions on testing tools, technologies, and infrastructure that can scale effectively as the company and engineering team grow.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as an SDET or Quality Assurance Automation Engineer, with a proven track record of shipping and testing high-quality products.
- Direct experience building test automation frameworks from the ground up, preferably in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment.
- Technical skills:
- Proficiency in programming: Expertise in a programming language, ideally Python.
- Frameworks and tools: Hands-on experience with relevant testing frameworks and tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Postman).
- Database knowledge: Familiarity with database technologies (SQL or NoSQL) for validating data integrity.
- CI/CD: Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions, Circle CI).
- Cloud experience: Familiarity with cloud services (e.g. AWS, GCP) is a plus.
- Soft skills:
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a startup environment.
- Problem-solving: Strong analytical and debugging skills to identify and solve complex technical challenges.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate across engineering, product, and leadership teams.
- Ownership: A strong sense of ownership and a proactive attitude toward improving product quality.
