Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:
Zone A: $205,700 - $274,300
Zone B: $185,200 - $246,900
Zone C: $170,800 - $227,700
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

What you'll do
As a manager of our Security Response Engineering team, you will play a key role in scaling and managing the operational security functions in Atlassian. Reporting to the Head of Detection and Response, you will lead a team of technical professionals, collaborate across global teams, and work closely with cross-functional stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in operational security functions, automation engineering, leadership, and a proven track record of managing security teams.
- Your responsibilities will include managing a team of security automation engineers, who support our Detections and Response function by building solutions to scale team processes, expand Detection and Response platform functionality, and enhance reliability of team capabilities.
- You have an interest in working with colleagues to understand our operational processes and platforms to design solutions to scale our capabilities.
- The use of machine learning and AI is critical to continued growth and scalability of our program and your experience and expertise in both of those areas will help set the team up for success.
- We build many of our own tools, so having an strong background in software development is essential.
Your background
- 3+ years working in security engineering
- 2+ years managing global team(s)
- Experience working with Security Detection and Response functions
- Experience in developing in and for public cloud environments
- Experience developing automation in Python, Go, or Rust
- Hands-on, proven experience developing and refining machine learning and AI models within security context
- Experience using Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platforms
- Experience using common Detection and Response tools and platforms
- Experience leading large scale projects from start to finish and mentoring other security practitioners
It's great, but not required, if you have:
- Published contributions to the security community
- Presentation experience at industry events
- Experience working with compliance, privacy, IT, networking, or related functions
Responsibilities
- Security Automation Leadership: Collaborate to execute and drive aspects of the Detection and Response Strategy, driving the development automation and tooling to scale team operations.
- Machine Learning & AI Expertise: Work with stakeholders and guide your team developing, publishing, and refining machine learning & AI based model tooling.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of technical professionals, fostering a culture of security and collaboration through clear communication and vision.
- Operational Oversight: Implement and enforce standards, policies, and procedures for effective detection and response capabilities.
- Leadership Development: Mentor and develop security practitioners, contributing to large-scale security projects and ensuring successful implementation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within operational security teams, with 2+ years of experience.
- Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscape, and operational security best practices.
- Strong knowledge of modern software engineering principles.
- Experience managing a team of technical professionals and collaborating across a global team.
- Track record of excelled leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills within own team as well as across the larger organization.
