Decile Group is transforming venture capital into a force for good in the world. We are working to launch 1,000 next-generation venture capital firms, changing the face of venture capital. We run VC Lab, the leading venture capital accelerator worldwide, and operate the Decile Hub platform — reducing the barriers of entry for next-generation investors to launch and grow meaningful early-stage investment firms.
We're looking for a Senior Ruby on Rails Engineer to join the Decile Group tech team. Read more here: https://github.com/VCLab-Inc/Engineering
The ideal candidate has real-world production Rails experience and the confidence to own complex, high-stakes features from architecture through deployment. You take pride in writing clean, maintainable code. You use AI tools actively — in your coding workflow, debugging, and design — not because you have to, but because you understand how it makes you faster and sharper. You don't need a fancy degree or big tech pedigree, but you do need to be a strong engineer, a good communicator, and someone who takes ownership seriously.
Basic requirements:
- You'll be expected to complete a Rails coding challenge as part of the interview process (everyone on the Decile Group team has done well on it).
- You must live and work within a few time zones of Pacific (California) time. We are on Zoom and Slack a lot.
- You must be able to take ownership of a complex feature and drive it to completion with minimal hand-holding.
- You should be actively using AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.) as part of your daily workflow.
If you want to work on a product that matters, with a small team that holds a high bar, and grow significantly along the way — you'll fit in at Decile Group.
And we want to work with you too.
What You'll Do
- Own complex features end-to-end. Take a problem from spec to production — architecture decisions, implementation, testing, and deployment. You're accountable for what you ship.
- Build reliable, scalable Rails systems. Work across the full Rails stack: models, services, background jobs, APIs, and the front end. Write code that your teammates can read, extend, and trust.
- Collaborate closely with product and design. Ask the right questions before writing a line of code. Push back when a spec doesn't make sense. Help the team make better decisions with your technical perspective.
- Use AI to write better code, faster. Leverage AI tools throughout your workflow — code generation, debugging, refactoring, documentation. Model what AI-first engineering looks like at Decile Group.
- Improve the systems around you. Identify technical debt that matters, propose solutions, and follow through. Leave the codebase better than you found it.
- Mentor and elevate teammates. Code review with care. Share knowledge generously. Raise the level of the people around you.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of professional Ruby on Rails experience in production environments
- Deep understanding of Rails conventions, ActiveRecord, background processing (Sidekiq/etc.), and RESTful API design
- Strong instincts for performance, security, and maintainability
- Experience with front-end technologies — you can build clean, functional UI and aren't afraid of JavaScript
- Active use of AI coding tools in your daily workflow
- Excellent written communication — your PR descriptions and technical comments are clear and useful
- Comfort owning work independently and flagging blockers early
Nice to Have
- Experience with financial, legal, or compliance-adjacent SaaS products
- Familiarity with fund administration, venture capital, or investment management workflows
- Experience with Hotwire/Turbo/Stimulus or modern Rails front-end patterns
