About Us

Are you ready to build the future of supply chain? At Gather AI, we’re not just creating software; we’re pioneering a new era of warehouse intelligence. We’ve developed a groundbreaking, vision-powered platform that uses autonomous drones and existing equipment to capture real-time data, completely digitizing workflows that have historically been manual and error-prone. This means facilities operate smarter, safer, and more efficiently, ultimately redefining “on-time, in full” delivery.

If you’re looking for an opportunity to contribute to truly transformative technology and make a significant impact in a vital industry, Gather AI is the place for you. We’re leading the charge in the rapidly evolving robotics industry, and we invite you to join us in reshaping the global supply chain, one intelligent warehouse at a time.

About the Team

Our Autonomy team builds the systems that make Gather AI’s drone and MHE Vision products work in live warehouse environments. We run two distinct product lines, both built on ROS2 and Zenoh, each with their own communications architecture, diagnostics, and deployment patterns. The platform work that ties these systems together is foundational to everything the team ships.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Robotics Platform Engineer to own the robotics platform layer across both product lines. This is a role for someone who cares about making systems work reliably in the real world, not just in the lab. You’ll own the ROS2 and Zenoh communications layer, the Docker container infrastructure our software runs in, the diagnostics tooling that tells us what’s happening in the field, and eventually the roadmap for converging our drone and MHEV platforms into a shared architecture.

You’ll have real influence over how our platform evolves. That means the freedom to push for better approaches when you see them, and the responsibility to bring the team along with you.

What You’ll Do
  • Own the ROS2 communications and middleware layer across drone and MHEV platforms, including the Zenoh-based comms layer, behavior trees, and system integration
  • Maintain and evolve the Docker containers our robotics software runs in, keeping them lean, reliable, and consistently deployable to the field
  • Build diagnostics and observability tooling that surfaces the health of the communications layer and running services, from low-level logging through dashboard visibility
  • Define and manage deployment processes for getting software changes out to field hardware reliably and safely
  • Develop the roadmap for converging our drone and MHEV architectures into a unified platform over time, and drive the execution of that convergence
  • Support both Autonomy team pods across drone and MHEV, flexing between their needs as priorities shift
What You’ll Need
  • Hands-on experience building and operating a working robotics system, such as drones, autonomous vehicles, or any platform with a meaningful communications layer between nodes
  • Deep ROS2 experience including middleware, DDS or Zenoh, logging, and system integration
  • Production experience with Docker containers in a robotics or embedded context, including container design, service management, and deployment
  • Strong observability and diagnostics experience, knowing what to log, how to structure it, and how to surface failures across a distributed system
  • Self-sufficient and proactive, comfortable identifying and driving solutions without waiting to be handed a spec
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with Ansible or similar configuration management tooling for managing fleet deployments
  • Experience working across multiple robotics platforms or product lines simultaneously
  • Background in systems integration, connecting robotics stacks with partner or customer technologies
  • Genuine interest in robotics systems and how they work, not just the software layer on top

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
