About Us: A division within the Department of Emergency Medicine, the Center for Disaster Medicine (CDM) (https://www.massgeneral.org/disaster-medicine) houses numerous grant-funded programs that focus on Disaster Medicine, Healthcare Preparedness and Emergency Management, and High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID). The CDM team is comprised of interdisciplinary subject matter experts, including national and international experts in their fields, leading the development of preparedness programs and resources to meet current and future healthcare challenges. About You: You are an experienced project manager and/or emergency manager with a strong interest and experience in project and programmatic management. You’re a high performing, mission-driven professional with a proven track record of leading and delivering successful projects. You bring a strong ability to manage projects in a fast-paced environment, exhibit critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, collaborate across teams, and deliver high quality outcomes. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills and are adept at working collaboratively with a diverse group of partners.


 

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Director, Funded Projects at CDM, the Senior Project Manager will work as part of a team to lead projects and initiatives on behalf of CDM that strengthen healthcare emergency preparedness in Region 1 and beyond, primarily through the Region 1 Regional Disaster Health Response System (RDHRS) and the Region 1 Emerging Special Pathogens Treatment Center (RESPTC) They will lead projects as assigned from concept to completion by developing project plans that outline goals, activities, and milestones, managing and facilitating project meetings, and collaborating with critical stakeholders to accomplish programmatic objectives. This position is grant-funded and is contingent on continued availability of these funds.


 

Qualifications

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Programmatic Priorities

Serves as the lead for operationalizing all aspects of the Patient Movement Capability and Platform.

  • Builds and tests operational plans to effectively guide system activation and use.
  • Recruits, trains, and onboards staff to serve in the various patient movement roles
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and vendors to continue building out the patient movement platform technology.
  • Support planning and coordination for patient movement during infectious disease surge events.

Leads and manages the work of various CDM working groups to build out tools and resources to strengthen healthcare preparedness as assigned.

Readiness & Response Operations

Serves as a Duty Officer for the RDHRS (after participating in required trainings).

Participates in RDHRS and RESPTC response activations as assigned.

Supports the demobilization of the Response Center and HCID response activities to a state of response readiness in a timely manner. 

Participates in regular trainings, drills, and exercises to promote improved coordination and regional healthcare preparedness. 

Support the rapid development and deployment of patient placement and transportation tools and resources, including just-in-time training materials.

Participates in the after-action processes, contributing to the development of continuous improvement plans following exercises and/or response to real-world incidents.

Project Management

Manages multiple aspects within the RDHRS, RESPTC, and other CDM programs as assigned, and assumes leadership responsibility for all projects simultaneously, including:

  • Setting goals for project activities,
  • Creating/managing project plans,
  • Anticipating potential project delays and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies,
  • Escalating delays and/or challenges with specific projects as necessary to the Assistant Director to ensure steps towards remediation are taken.

Attends all relevant meetings; contributes ideas and monitors the planning process.

Performs other duties to support CDM activities, as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in related field required; Master's Degree in related field preferred.

5-7 years of experience in project management and/or emergency preparedness required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven working experience in project management, in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, consensus building skills.
  • Experience in emergency management strongly desired; knowledge of hospital and/or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Maturity and operational problem solving/decision making experience.
  • Ability to lead and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with project management/task tracking software.
  • Completion of ICS/NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800 courses, before or upon hire.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Powerpoint, Teams, and Excel.
  • Ability and interest in learning new software applications.

Working Conditions

  • This position will be hybrid in nature, and the incumbent will work with their supervisor to establish a final schedule; however, candidates should anticipate being on campus 3 days per week.
  • Normal office conditions.
  • May be required to travel to offsite facilities as needed.
  • May occasionally be required to attend meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours and is available by pager/cell phone outside of normal business hours during assigned Duty Officer shifts.
  • May be required to report to the hospital or offsite locations outside of normal business hours to respond to events that require emergency support.
  • May be required to work extended shifts for multiple periods during emergency events.
