Position Summary:

The Senior Project Manager – Pharmaceuticals is responsible for assigned project work (could be singular project or multiple projects) and all activities associated with the assigned project(s) including oversight of MEI field teams, and the coordination of all things related to the project(s) from the quoting phase to actual onsite management through the final close out of the project.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review plans and other technical documents, answer questions regarding the scope and/or timing of the project, monitor costs and project progress.
  • Conduct Pre-Hand-Off Meeting (prior to commencement of the project) & Post-Hand-Off Meeting (post completion of the project) with the sales and operations teams ensuring clarity of the job scope and expectations, as well as establishing lessons learned.
  • Ability to understand contract language and execute project successfully to remain in contract scope.
  • Responsible for planning, administering, and completing assigned projects, which may cross several functional areas, such as facilities, operations, or administration.
  • Ability to manage assignments which may vary in length, complexity and are multi-phased.
  • Responsible for supervision of staff by providing work direction to individuals that are supporting a project as well as payroll verification/approval.
  • Communicate directly with client/contractors or designers/subcontractors utilizing a Request for Information/Quote/Proposal (RF/Q/PI) process concerning project cost, scope of work, staffing, scheduling, and change orders. 
  • Collaborate with various teams to execute the project management plan; revises and documents plan via a structured change order process as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Prepare project status reports and works to ensure plans adhere to contract specifications. 
  • Responsible for all job site management activities of our crews and subcontractors. 
  • Work closely with sales team in all phases of the project, and safety professionals in coordinating safety training, accident and injury investigations, equipment or property damage incident investigations.
  • Must be able to travel to client’s job site and work onsite while directing all activities on the project.
  • Work with cross-functional team members to develop detailed project schedule including milestones, deliverables, and dependencies based on business objectives, budget, scope, timeline, and risks.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings to provide an update on project progress and resolve issues while communicating with team members, stakeholders, and executives.
  • Maintain project files in SharePoint to ensure project continuity and historic documentation.
  • Consistently demonstrates professional conduct as a representative of MEI and adheres to the corporate mission, vision, and values. 
  • Provides supervision for Project Manager and Project Engineers in the region.


Minimum Qualifications (Experience, Skills, and Education):

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, project management, industrial engineering, or related field needed, MBA a plus.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification is preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years managing pharmaceutical / life science-related projects.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years’ experience managing multiple projects in a production facility or industrial environment.
  • Five (5) plus years proven machinery moving, construction, project management or construction safety experience is preferable.
  • Familiar with a variety of job site / field concepts, practices, procedures, bottlenecks, and/or risks.
  • Rely on extensive experience/ judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly self-directed and motivated; can effectively lead a team or work independently.
  • Must be able to work along aside field technicians in assembly and erecting of machine tools.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
  • Can negotiate effectively with peers around priority and design.
  • Ability to effectively recognize and resolve conflict in preliminary stages.
  • Able to regularly participate and contribute to department and team meetings.
  • Read and interpret data, contracts, blueprints, schematics, and detailed plans.
  • Familiarity with cGMP standards and clean design principles, including execution within regulated cGMP environments.
  • Experience engaging early in the project lifecycle, including participation in formal and informal Design Assist arrangements.
  • Proven track record supporting projects delivered under EPCM (Engineer–Procure–Construct–Manage–Validate) and IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) models in collaboration with end users and prime contractors.
  • Experience supporting estimating and preconstruction, developing iterative budgets from conceptual design through contract execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute work in and around active production environments with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
  • Experience delivering projects exceeding $5M in contract value
  • Proficient skills with the MS office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to quickly attain.
  • Able to travel to project site locations with the ability to stay on or near the project site for long durations. 


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

This is a very physical, hands-on position. The Senior Project Manager – Pharmaceuticals will perform General Physical Activities — physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, or stooping / crouching. Will lift and/or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent work outdoors with exposure to inclement weather, will traverse uneven or broken terrain, and maneuver around heavy equipment or machinery. Work may be performed in a non-climate-controlled environment with exposure to high noise levels or low-lit areas. Frequently travel by automobile to various project sites.
