As a Senior Professional Services Technical Architect (Forward Deployed Engineer) at GitLab, you'll work directly with our most strategic enterprise customers to design, deploy, and optimize GitLab's Duo Agent Platform (DAP) in their real-world environments. You'll lead complex, multi-phase implementations from initial discovery through post-production optimization, acting as the technical owner for forward deployed projects. You'll partner closely with customer engineering, security, and operations teams to architect secure, compliant, and scalable DAP solutions, including self-managed installations, AI Gateway configuration, and self-hosted model integrations in highly regulated and complex environments.
You'll be hands-on with large language model (LLM) applications, Model Context Protocol (MCP) integrations, and custom agents and flows that connect GitLab DAP to customer systems like Jira, ServiceNow, Confluence, and internal tools. Your work will turn high-level AI transformation goals into production-ready architectures, implementation patterns, and reusable assets that other GitLab teams and customers can adopt. You'll collaborate with Product and Engineering to share field insights, helping shape the DAP roadmap and best practices for enterprise-scale AI adoption. This role is ideal if you enjoy being embedded with customers, solving complex technical challenges, and demonstrating measurable AI business impact, all within GitLab's remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment.
Some examples of our projects:
- Leading end-to-end DAP implementations for global enterprises with strict security and compliance requirements
- Designing advanced MCP and custom agent integrations to orchestrate workflows across a customer's existing tools and platforms
- Lead complex, multi-phase DAP (Duo Agent Platform) implementations for strategic enterprise accounts, owning delivery from initial discovery through post-production optimization.
- Architect enterprise-scale DAP deployments, including self-managed installations, AI Gateway configuration, and self-hosted model integrations for customers with advanced security and compliance needs.
- Design and implement advanced MCP (Model Context Protocol) integrations that connect DAP with customer systems such as Jira, ServiceNow, Confluence, and custom internal tools.
- Contribute high-value, reusable Custom Agents and Flows back to GitLab that become reference solutions adopted by multiple customers and Professional Services teams.
- Develop reference architectures, deployment patterns, and implementation methodologies that accelerate DAP delivery and improve consistency across customer engagements.
- Mentor Intermediate Technical Architects and other Forward Deployed Engineers on advanced DAP patterns, complex troubleshooting, and effective customer engagement strategies.
- Lead technical discovery and architecture sessions with senior customer stakeholders to identify high-impact AI transformation opportunities and define scalable rollout strategies.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Sales to provide structured field feedback, influence the DAP roadmap, and represent DAP capabilities in executive briefings and industry events.
- Experience working embedded with customers in technical, customer-facing roles (for example, software engineering with consulting experience, solutions engineering, or professional services delivery).
- Production experience with large language model (LLM) applications, including prompt engineering, agent development, and evaluation frameworks.
- Experience architecting and deploying AI or machine learning solutions in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical implementations independently, from discovery and design through deployment and post-production optimization.
- Track record of contributing reusable technical assets (for example documentation, code, reference architectures, or frameworks) that benefit teams beyond a single project.
- Experience mentoring and guiding junior or intermediate engineers, including coaching on advanced patterns and complex troubleshooting.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences from individual contributors to director and vice president level executives.
- Additional experience in security-conscious or regulated industries, and familiarity with GitLab's platform, CI/CD pipelines, and DevSecOps practices.
