Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Virtual Desktop Engineer is responsible for engineering and operational delivery of virtual desktop platforms, including Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), and Windows 365. This role designs, implements, and maintains scalable, secure, and high-performance virtual environments to support global end-user computing needs. The position requires deep expertise in virtualization technologies, Windows OS optimization, and automation to ensure reliability, security, and an exceptional user experience.
Key Accountabilities
  • Platform Ownership: Own the engineering and operational delivery of virtual desktop platforms, including Citrix, AVD, and Windows 365.
  • Design & Implementation: Architect and maintain secure, scalable virtual environments aligned with business requirements.
  • Automation & Self-Service: Develop automation scripts and enable self-service capabilities for provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Performance & Capacity Management: Monitor platform health, performance, and capacity; proactively identify and resolve issues to ensure service reliability.
  • Tier 4 Support: Provide advanced troubleshooting for complex virtual desktop issues, including session failures, profile corruption, and cloud integration challenges.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement patching strategies, vulnerability remediation, and compliance enforcement across virtual platforms.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product and client experience teams to ensure virtual solutions meet business needs and roadmap priorities.
  • Strategic Roadmap: Contribute to cloud migration planning, cost optimization, and user experience enhancements for virtual platforms.

Qualifications
  • Minimum requirement of 4 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 5 years or more of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
    • 5+ years experience with Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Windows 365
    • Strong knowledge of Windows OS troubleshooting and performance optimization
    • Proficiency in GPO management and Active Directory integration
    • 5+ years scripting experience (PowerShell preferred; VB/VB.NET optional)
    • SQL and PowerBI reporting skills preferred
    • Experience with patching strategies, vulnerability remediation, and compliance enforcement

Recommended Certifications
  • Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP-V)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty
  • Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
  • ITIL Foundation Certification

Pay Transparency
The expected salary for this position is $105,000.00-$150,000.00.
Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance. At Cargill we put people first. Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave accruals of one hour for every 30 worked, up to 48 hours per calendar year unless otherwise provided by law.
