The Team

The Global Product Team is responsible for broadening the global reach of SmartNews.  Primarily, we are focused on the US News market as a means to broaden our footprint and provide more people high-quality news that they find essential.  Presently, we are building a new application called NewsArc.

Your Role

Understanding and working in the app in real time as well as being a part of the development and strategy of how features are developed and understood in our application.  You will also be responsible for traditional areas like customer support, product marketing, and growth, but in very non-traditional, blended, ways.  You will constantly be hands-on and very close to our readers, working side-by-side with design, product, business, and engineering. Some of your responsibilities include:

  • User Growth
  • Product and feature development, release, and operation
  • Customer support and feedback
  • 3 days a week in office
Requirements

Minimum requirements

  • Growth Strategist:
    • You are not a traditional marketer or a copywriter. You have a broad, product-minded approach to growth. You know how to define, build, and execute user acquisition strategies from scratch—no playbook, no hand-holding.
  • User-Obsessed:
    • You believe user insights are the foundation of great products. You actively seek out early adopters and power users, talk to them, listen deeply, and turn what you learn into both actionable acquisition strategies and product improvements.
  • Doer with Range:
    • You are hands-on and comfortable wearing multiple hats—jumping between landing page setup, lifecycle messaging, campaign tweaks, and customer support. You move fast and care about getting things right end-to-end.

Nice to have experiences/skills

  • Software engineering experience
  • Worked in small, focused teams/companies with responsibility and experience in customer facing work–in other words, someone who has made or been a part of a consumer product.
  • Product design experience

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
