The Team: 

Upstart’s Identity Platform and Experiences  team is a multidisciplinary group responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a secure, scalable, and user-friendly identity and access management (IAM) ecosystem for our customers and lending partners. Our mission is to seamlessly connect users across products and services while ensuring top-tier security, compliance, and usability.

As the Product Manager - Identity Platform  at Upstart, you will  blend strategic vision, technical expertise, and a user-centric mindset to drive seamless, secure, and scalable identity solutions. You will shape  how users and businesses Authenticate and Authorize with Upstart and use our products in a way that feels invisible yet robustly secure.

How you’ll make an impact

  • Define and champion the IAM roadmap that balances security, user experience, and business needs.
  • Anticipate future trends in authentication, Authorization, privacy, and decentralized identity (e.g., passkeys, biometric authentication).
  • Reduce friction in login, registration, and recovery flows, ensuring high conversion and retention rates.
  • Own APIs and SDKs for authentication and authorization, ensuring internal and external developers can integrate easily.
  • Advocate for user control over identity and access supporting transparent data consent management.
  • Act as the bridge between engineering, security, design, and business teams to align identity goals with product initiatives

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 5+ years of product management experience in identity, authentication, authorization products.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling platform-level products (Identity, Security, APIs, or Developer Platforms).
  • Strong understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML) , identity federation, security best practices in IAM and Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions.
  • Ability to balance security and usability, ensuring a seamless user experience while improving registration, login, and account recovery flows to reduce friction
  • Strong ability to influence and communicate with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to align identity investments with business growth, customer trust, and platform scalability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with identity providers (Okta, Auth0, Keycloak, Google Identity, AWS Cognito).
  • Knowledge of emerging identity trends (Decentralized Identity, Verifiable Credentials, Passkeys).
  • Background in security engineering, IAM architecture, or risk/fraud prevention.
  • Experience in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, enterprise SaaS) where identity security is critical.

Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote

Time zone requirements The team operates on the East/West coast time zones.

Travel requirements As a digital first company, the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions’ cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package.  The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic location–with our “digital first” philosophy, Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

In addition, Upstart provides employees with target bonuses, equity compensation, and generous benefits packages (including medical, dental, vision, and 401k).

$162,100$224,500 USD
