The Senior Product Manager, Commerce will define the vision for in-game item purchases on Discord, leading product experiences across mobile and desktop, experimenting with social buying mechanics, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and game studios.
The summary above was generated by AI

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

We’re building a new 3P Commerce platform that helps game studios bring their in-game items directly to players on Discord. From social shopping and group-driven discovery to seamless mobile buying experiences, we’re focused on making it easier and more fun for players to purchase the items they care about, together.

As the Product Manager for Commerce (Consumer Experiences), you’ll define and build the end-to-end surfaces that underpin how players shop on Discord. You’ll own the user-facing product experiences across mobile and desktop, lead experiments that explore how social behaviors drive purchase intent, and work closely with game studios to ensure what we build fits naturally into how their players want to buy.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Define the product philosophy, vision, and roadmap for how players discover and purchase 3P in-game items on Discord
  • Build and iterate on the consumer-facing experiences across mobile, desktop, and in-server surfaces
  • Lead our early social purchase experiments - including group buying, and other new social buying mechanics that leverage Discord’s social graph
  • Partner closely with engineering, design, data science, trust & safety, payments, partnerships, and marketing to ship high-quality, compliant commerce features
  • Work with game studios and publishers to understand their player journeys, business goals, and technical constraints
  • Drive a rigorous experimentation culture across conversion funnels, UX, and merchandising strategies
  • Communicate vision, priorities, and results clearly to leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Contribute to shaping Discord’s long-term strategy for becoming a meaningful commerce destination for games

What you should have

  • Deep understanding of the gaming landscape, player behavior, and what game studios expect from platform partnerships
  • Strong product experience building ecommerce, marketplace, or in-game purchasing experiences
  • Experience owning mobile user experiences where simplicity, trust, and conversion are central
  • Ability to break down ambiguity into simple, testable paths and drive fast-paced execution
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency partnering with engineering on complex systems (payments, fulfillment, identity, account linking)
  • Strong analytical skill set - able to design experiments, interpret data, and drive decisions with metrics
  • 5+ years experience shipping consumer-facing software with clear business impact

Bonus Points

  • Experience building or scaling social commerce features
  • Familiarity with game monetization systems, live ops, or in-game item economies
  • Experience working with external partners or third-party developers
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
