Marqeta is hiring for a Senior Product Manager - 3D Secure role to join the Risk, Fraud and Disputes Team. As a Product Manager, you will own the 3D Secure authentication solutions for Marqeta. You will be in charge of challenging the status quo and creating a revolutionary authentication experience at Marqeta. You will strike the right balance between enhancing security while minimizing customer friction. You will be an experienced payments professional with a deep understanding of 3D Secure protocols and authentication product development. You will partner with a diverse set of teams including engineering, data science, risk operations, legal, GTM and marketing.

We work Flexible First. This role can be performed remote within the United States. We’d love for you to join us.

The Impact You’ll Have
  • Define and execute a clear, actionable strategy that aligns with the company's overall growth objectives.
  • Lead and inspire others with a compelling product vision and roadmap, driving alignment and seeking consensus among leadership, peers, and teams
  • Deeply understand the 3D Secure ecosystem, including EMV 3DS specifications, issuer and merchant requirements, and the competitive landscape of authentication solutions. This includes expertise in strong customer authentication (SCA) requirements, particularly for regulatory compliance like PSD2 in Europe.
  • Develop frictionless authentication solutions that balance security with user experience, addressing both merchant and issuer needs while ensuring regulatory compliance. Work cross functionally to ensure optimal implementation and customer success.
  • Drive the adoption and optimization of 3D Secure solutions, balancing authentication approval rates, fraud prevention, and customer experience metrics while keeping regulatory compliance and financial outcomes top of mind.
  • Represent Marqeta in industry events as a thought leader in secure authentication. Be an expert on the evolution of 3D Secure standards, emerging biometric authentication methods, and the regulatory landscape affecting authentication across different payment types.
  • Collaborate across customer-facing and technical teams to collect inputs for prioritization of features, including value, effort, usability, and priority
  • Create well-defined Product Requirement Documents focusing on customer and business value and defining metrics to quantify success
  • Deliver customer value iteratively, managing products through various launch phases and follow-on releases.
  • Act as technical advisor to educate and evangelize feature(s) with customers via meetings, presentations, and other forums
  • Collaborate with go-to-market partners to develop product collateral, presentations, trainings, and other tools to bring products to customers and prospects
  • Bring context to the team and organization on the industry and customer life cycle
  • Identify critical metrics to assess success and performance of products, in ways that resonate with the business
Who You Are
  • 5+ years in product management roles designing and delivering authentication solutions that have delighted customers and driven business growth
  • Proven track record of setting vision and strategy for a product area and translating it into a roadmap with rigorous end-to-end execution
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, with strong communication and influencing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for precise articulations of customer problems for technical and business audiences
  • Proficient in identifying key metrics, analyzing data, and balancing quantitative and qualitative information to make decisions
  • "Roll up your sleeves" mentality to make your products and team successful, seeking root causes, assigning ownership, and driving accountability to get things done
  • Creativity and customer empathy to translate features or functions into user flows, experiences, or value propositions that can generate new products
  • Creativity to propose 0->1 features and solutions, working without clear direction
Nice-To-Haves
  • Deep knowledge of the 3D Secure protocols (especially EMV 3DS 2.x), card network authentication programs, and regulatory requirements like PSD2's Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) mandates.
  • Experience with implementing or managing authentication solutions in a financial services or payments environment
  • Strong technical acumen, curiosity, and familiarity with new technologies, API's, programming languages, and databases
  • Experience with high-volume authentication systems and optimizing approval rates while managing fraud risk
  • Knowledge of biometric authentication methods, tokenization, and modern identity verification techniques

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

  • National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
  • Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
  • Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position is:

  • National: $118,100 - $147,600
  • Premium: $127,800 - $159,700
  • Premium Plus: $138,900 - $173,600
